Ron Artest is under criminal investigation on suspicion of animal cruelty.

Honestly, was that sentence even surprising in the least bit? I didn't think so.

Placer County animal control officers took custody of his black-and-white female Great Dane on Monday. She is now being treated by a veterinarian.

A notice from animal control posted at the front of Artest's Loomis home indicated he is under investigation for failing to feed and nourish the dog.

Neighbors said the dog is often left alone in the yard for months at a time without food and water. They said animal control has taken custody of his dogs on at least three other occasions.

If convicted, Artest could face a fine of up to $20,000. Ironically, that's exactly how much cash DeShawn Stevenson just lost to Gilbert Arenas.

It's a small world, after all.

On the upside this could be great material for a new rap album.

If there's anything that sells CDs, it's getting shot and going to jail.

Just ask Fiddy ... then duck.

HOW WOULD HE LIKE IT IF SOMEONE DIDN'T FEED HIM FOR MONTHS OR DIDN'T HAVE ANYWHERE TO LAY HIS HEAD AT NIGHT. SOME FOLKS ARE BLESSED WITH SO MUCH BUT THEY ARE SO SELFISH AND CRUEL. THEY HAVE A LITTLE KNOWLEDGE BUT THEY DON'T HAVE COMMON SENSE. SOUNDS LIKE HE NEED SOME PROFESSIONAL HELP TO DEAL WITH SOME THINGS IN HIS LIFE AND A LITTLE PRAYING TO GOD WILL NOT HURT AT ALL. HE'LL STRAIGHTEN IT ALL OUT.
