Shaquille O'Neal is working with about 325 pounds, four championship rings, and one soon to be ex-wife.
According to divorce papers filed Tuesday in a Miami court, the marriage between the NBA star and his wife of five years, Shaunie, is "irretrievably broken."
So what exactly caused the break up of this height-disproportionate duo? No specifics were given, but the culprit may be what nearly half of all divorced couples in the United States cite as the primary reason for their marital split: money.
Hmmm ... maybe she was just saving for a rainy day ... without telling her husband ... yes, a rainy day ... or a flood of Noah's Ark proportions ... with no Shaq in sight ...
Anyhow, you no doubt feel a little sad for the big guy. After all, the singles scene can be somewhat depressing at times.

I think it's so sad that another couple has decided to call it quits and get a divorce. I hate to see our black married couples break up over things we all wonder could've been fixed. Money can buy alot of things but true love and happiness it can't. There seems to be something that afflicts celebrity black couples like the plague. I loved seeing them together and I am truly sad for the both of them at this time. I don't know all the details and I don't need to, I just know that lives will be changed because of this. they have children together, so this will affect them also.

Shaunie did exactly what she was supposed to do. She's married to a millionaire and they have a tendency to up and go at will stating irreconcilable differences when all they really want to do is play around. Its not about being a gold digger she has a team of kids for this man and life ain't free. This is not only for Shaunie its for all women in similar positions, when he gets paid so do you. Always have a rainy day fund.

Damn Shaq. Why so cutthroat? You don't throw your marriage, life, family away because of money. Especially when you have an abundance of it as he does. You don't throw it away when your partner has lied about it, unless their lying has rendered you broke which in this case is clearly NOT the case.
Something else is going on here but its none of my business. It is sad to see them split. I adore the her that we see in the media and Shaq's image and athleticism as well. They made a great couple and who knows, they may reconcile. Children need for their parents to WORK IT OUT. Dag.

As a black woman that has been married for 17 years(14 years happily married!)I was saddened to read about the O'Neals getting a divorce.I'm also disappointed that so may people on the blogs are giving Shaunie a hard time about "stashing" money. She has been a devoted partner to Shaq for at least the last ten years and she did sign a pre-nup. Sista is smart!

Like many, I was disappointed by the news of Shaquille filing for divorce. They appeared to be a beautiful couple. No matter how beautiful things appear on the outside, marriage ain’t no joke. Our society offers little support when it comes to maintaining longevity in marriages today, compound this with celebrity status and marriage become a disaster in the making. Money cannot buy you love, just temporary happiness. Although we try to purchase anything money can buy, we fail miserably. Unfortunately, there are no winners in divorce, particularly for children. My advice, take the money and find yourself an excellent adviser or marriage counselor that can help you overcome whatever irretrievable brokenness you believe may exist. A healthy family life is priceless.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOOK AT THE POT CALLING THE KEATLE BLACK.
Now, Shaq is punishing HIS WIFE AND THE MOTHER OF HIS CHILDREN for putting away some money for a rainy day. Well, he is the head of his family so if his wife felt insecure in anyway in her marriage to where she had to go behind his back to secure a financial future for herself and children THEN IT'S SHAQ'S FAULT TOO. He played apart in this mess too. He is not innocent in this matter.
If God is not the head of your family then you will lean to your own understanding and get out of order.
Shaq sowed seeds of adultery in his relationship and marriage many times so how can he act like a saint and try to expose his wife to the public for what she did. He is trying to make her look like a thief when he has a reputation of being a big WHORE. This is not necessary. It's a controlling and mean spirited move on Shaq's part.
Let her have some money and property Shaq. SO WHAT SHAQ IF SHE PUT A LITTLE MONEY ASIDE. God has blessed you with more than enough money and material things. BE A MAN AND TELL US THE REAL DEAL. TELL THE TRUNTH SHAQ. TELL US WHAT YOU ARE DOING WITH OTHER WOMEN. YOU ARE TRYING TO TAKE OUR ATTENTION AWAY FROM YOUR DIRT. BUT THE TRUTH WILL COME TO THE LIGHT.
Shaq, planted seeds of insecurity in his wife and marriage through adultery so now he is reaping a harvest from the seeds he's sowed in his wife and family. He has sneaky and unfaithful to his wife so she did what did with their money. Shaunie know's all to well about his controlling and mean spirit, we just don't. He has controlled her with money all along so he set her up to fail and now he wants to point the finger at her for what she did. Shaunie did what all women are trained to do and that is, "PUT SOME MONEY AWAY FOR A RAINY DAY." Well, it's raining in the O' Neal household and Shaunie got under an umbrella and I am not mad at her for it. GO SHAUNIE!!!!!!!
I would respect Shaq more if he were to man up and say I want to be with other women so I am divorcing my wife and I'm going to leave the children with her so that I can be free to have sex with other women wherever and whenever I want to.
