Did the Rockies Turn Denver Into a Baseball Town?

Colorado Rockies

The Denver Broncos will always be No. 1, but the Colorado Rockies have made it well known that they want a piece of the limelight too in Colorado this season.

Call it skill, call it luck, call it an accident or maybe it was just pure divine intervention, but the Rockies have won 21 of their last 22 and punched their first-ever ticket to the World Series.

And like any good Disney-esque sports miracle/tale, fans are hopping aboard this bandwagon in droves. According to SI.com, attendance numbers suggest the city has gone "from curiosity to hope to belief." For the first game of the win streak, Sept. 16 against the Marlins, only 19,121 showed up at Coors Field. This was followed by 23,000 for the Dodgers, then 26,0000, then, after a magical 6-0 road trip, up to 46,000 for the final Arizona series and 48,000 for the one-game playoff versus San Diego.

It seems these days, it may be cooler to rock the purple and black than sport the Broncos orange and blue around Denver.

How can this be in the same city where John Elway's name is synonymous with living god? Broncos fans have sold out 285 consecutive regular games dating back to 1970. Can Denver really be a baseball town now?

Judging by the hype, it appears so and it's in part thanks to the Broncos.

Denver's beloved football team has dropped eight of their last 12 games, including an embarrassing 41-3 loss at home to the San Diego Chargers. It was Denver's worst home loss in 41 years.

Oct. 29 is the date to circle on the calendar; it just might be the day that proves where Denver's allegiances lie. If the Rockies host Game 5 of the World Series, it will be the same night the Broncos host Green Bay on 'Monday Night Football.'

Will Coloradoans be ready for some football or aching for some baseball action?
