If you were dreaming of Serena Williams kicking butt in the WTA championships in Madrid, now would be the time to hit the snooze button on that dream.
The tennis star pulled out of her opening match with an injury on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old American had just lost the first set against Russian Anna Chakvetadze 6-4 but retired as the second set was about to start.
She had called for the doctor to attend a problem with her left knee when the score was 5-4, having looked short on mobility throughout the opening set. She played on with strapping around the knee but did not look happy.
Big sister Venus had already pulled out of this event due to some ongoing dizziness.
So Serena's withdrawal means (1) world number Justine Henin automatically qualifies for the semi-finals after her two opening wins and (2) I (and possibly you too) just tuned out.
Maybe she'll blog about it.

That is too bad, i was looking forward to seeing the matches. Hopefully, Venus and Serena will be healthier next year.

How come every time she looks like she's gonna lose, she says she's hurt and stops the match? I'm just saying..........

I have to disagree with you, because I have seen many a match on television and in person, in which Serena has played in, finished the match, and won/lost while not in the best health/physical shape, and the ONE thing about Serena and Venus for that matter, is that they are both competitors because if they weren't, they would not have 13 Grand slams between them, Olympic Gold medals or be on their way to the Tennis Hall of Fame.

The ATA is putting to much pressure on these girls that's why they constantly stay injured and I believe someone is putting something in their water or food or something coz their constantly complaining about their health WHEN THEY GET TO A TENNIS MATCH! They be fine until then and I know these girls aren't afraid to face any of their opponents! So something more sinister is going on as it was with Arthur Ashe who suddenly had a heart attack when he was at the peak of his powers back in the day! Then he comes down with AIDS from a BLOOD TRANSFUSION! Yeah right! But with the constant criticism and bad press about their decisions to not play this match versus playing this match, they are just mad that these two sistahs from the hood with no formal tennis training is whippin' these white girls asses who's mama and daddy shelled out good duckets so they could learn the game! Racism is not just a disease, but it's endemic!
