If you were dreaming of Serena Williams kicking butt in the WTA championships in Madrid, now would be the time to hit the snooze button on that dream.
The tennis star pulled out of her opening match with an injury on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old American had just lost the first set against Russian Anna Chakvetadze 6-4 but retired as the second set was about to start.
She had called for the doctor to attend a problem with her left knee when the score was 5-4, having looked short on mobility throughout the opening set. She played on with strapping around the knee but did not look happy.
Big sister Venus had already pulled out of this event due to some ongoing dizziness.
So Serena's withdrawal means (1) world number Justine Henin automatically qualifies for the semi-finals after her two opening wins and (2) I (and possibly you too) just tuned out.
Maybe she'll blog about it.

I'm sorry to hear the Williams sisters are suffering injuries but like time and time again they have proved themselves champions and I'm sure they will overcome this one, 'GET HEALTHY LADIES'. It's amazing what jealousy do to little minds, isn't that right melle ?

Serena must realize that being 20 pounds overweight is hard on the knees.
Lets hope that Venus returns healthy not only for her great play and vigor but because she has the second best posterior in womens tennis.

Serena! You are our American Girl and we all hope you rest that knee, as I did, and wave any surgery, you will heal and you will play to win again.
God Bless Sally

We must all be proud of these girls.
For many years they represent us in that field.
If they hurt, so understand them.

Serena fears no one. Give her time to get healthy again and she will rise to the top. It's the inner drive that keeps her going.
