Tennis superstar Venus Williams has been a leader in raising awareness of gender equality, playing a key role in persuading the World Tennis Association to finally pay female and male players equally.
I'm guessing Venus' new hairdo, what TMZ's calling the "Zac Efron shag" was essential to her "we can even look like boys, so pay us like boys" campaign.
I think it worked.
However, the reigning Wimbledon Women's Singles champ won't be showing off her shag on the court, as she withdrew early on due to some health issues.
Get 'em next time girl (who's banking just as much as a guy)!

What is equal in the entertainment industry? Should I pay the same amount for every ticket? Does the viewer have a right to choose or select a preference? Is the game the same or are there subtle differences? Should I value the slam dunk less than a layup? We know they are not equal although they play with the same ball. It's all entertainment and like one game with the initials "NFL" it's Not For Long. Shut up and enjoy it while it lasts. Create a new game and demand what you want. Never lose respect for the game that made you what you are-A Women's champion.

Cecil, what are you talking about? Venus' brilliant letter to Wimbledon officials and her leadership on the issue of equal pay at that most prestigious event in tennis, changed HISTORY for the BETTER! So why your sour, misogynistic commentary? When Venus was lobbying and leading others for equal pay in 2006, the seats for women's events SOLD OUT just as the men's did! And in 2005, Venus' Williams' historic win in the final over former #1 Lindsay Davenport lasted LONGER than the MEN'S final that year! Pro athletes are not generally paid by the hour ANYWAY! As for bringing in revenue? The head official at The Australian Open this year said that SERENA WILLIAMS' compelling run to victory throughout that tournament led to the HIGHEST TELEVISION ratings in North American HISTORY! Venus and Serena normally cause tv ratings to go UP when they play, which is why at this LAST U.S. Open, Venus was asked to SWITCH her playing SCHEDULE DURING the event because U.S. Open officials wanted to insure that a certain night had good ratings! Venus obliged. But at what cost to her chances at another major? Should Venus and Serena make MORE money than men because the Williams' sisters generally generate more money than men? As for hair? Halle Berry is just as feminine with short hair as she is with long. So is Venus! Moreover, shorter hair is practical for an athlete. And plenty of women from the aforementioned Halle Berry to Nia Long look BETTER with short hair than with long hair! So cut the misguided misogyny, man. It just makes YOU ( and the person who wrote the snide "article") look bad - NOT family-oriented, spiritually-devout, well-rounded, hard-working, multi-talented, well-read, brilliant, Venus Williams. :)

Time will tell if this was a good move or not. Will both genders pull the same amount of spectators at the same price? Will the sponsors offer the same prizes to the winners and participants? I see equality as women competing against women. If that's not happening then something's missing from the gender equality issue.

I'm glad to see the Williams sister get so much attention, but does it have to rude and crude at times! Is it because they are Black and sucessful female tenis players?

to LP, im sure your remark " other people " is refering to non black, which would say, caucasion, hispanic, and oriental, or were you refering to just us white people. you know whats sad, after all that the african american population has conqured, and to this point today, and in these times, people like you
still have to consider yourself a color instead of a human being, get past the color issue will ya. im a firm believer that the majority of people that consider themselves held down, are in fact holding themselves down. comment by a very proud irish american, who strongly believes in equal rights to all
law abiding people, if you are a law abiding individual, then you deserve the same rights as the next person, period !!!!!!! charles........
