It is being reported that he is "fighting for his life" and the shooting was the result of a botched home burglary.
Miami-Dade County police officers were dispatched to Taylor's home at about 1:45 a.m. and found him shot. He was then airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital, police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said. He didn't know where on Taylor's body he was shot.
A brief statement from the Redskins said Taylor was undergoing treatment at the Miami hospital and that police were investigating. His family has asked that no information about his condition be released at this point, said hospital spokeswoman Lorraine Nelson.
Taylor, 24, is in his fourth season with the Redskins after playing at the University of Miami, where he was an All-American. He leads the Redskins with five interceptions but has missed the team's last two games with a knee injury.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to him.
Update: According to Pro Football Talk, "the bullet severed his femoral artery." Not a good look.
Update II: According to family members, Sean Taylor is "stabilizing" after being shot in the leg. The bullet reportedly traveled near the femoral artery, which is located in the upper thigh. Taylor has lost a substantial amount of blood.
Update III: On Sportstalk 980, Al Koken reported that the shooting occurred in Taylor's bedroom, where he was with his girlfriend.
Update IV: Washington Post's Jason La Canfora reports Taylor is "clinging to life." Doctors say Taylor is "nonresponsive and unconscious" and they are "worried about a possible brain injury or death." There's also concern that Taylor may've lost oxygen to the brain.
Update V: Taylor is still considered to be in critical condition but he has responded to doctors' requests to squeeze his hand and make facial expressions, according to Redskins vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato.

A man can't even make an honest living. This is sad. I hope he comes through OK. I don't even have to know all the details to know that this is probably spawned by jealousy. It is probably someone he knows involved in this. I have seen this in my neighborhood many times. When someone makes good for themselves and start shining, and then the haters start plotting. They won't strive for their own success. They try to take from the one who has put in the work and earned everything they have. Is this the price of success? Pray for this young brother

Goodness, I'm so sick of these hoodlums here in Miami. A man can't even have anything to himself, that didn't involve drug dealing without watching for his life. I pray he makes a speedy recovery!

Home invasions are becoming all too frequent. It's scarey when a person can't feel safe in their own home. I hope Sean has a full and speedy recovery.

Another rising star falls victim to senseless murder. How can people protect themselves from these human predators?
