It's an occurrence that has become all too common in the black community. Saying a young black male was shot to death is becoming the equivalent of saying, "Hey, did you know the sky is blue?"
The subject of Al Qaeda and terrorism consumes much of our nation's political talk, but what about the terrorists living in our backyards? The terrorists who made sleeping in his own home in suburban Miami a fatal unsafe decision for Taylor.
He went to college. He got a job that earned him millions and by several accounts had a bright career ahead of him. By its true definition, Taylor was living the 'American Dream.' But it was all blown away by a gun shot wound.
The first bright day of 2007 turned dark for Darrent Williams, a Denver Broncos cornerback, who was murdered in a drive-by shooting near a Denver nightclub.
Sure Williams and Taylor were rich and famous, but in the end it didn't matter. It's tragic, it's senseless, and it's unnecessary. So why does it keep happening?
There have been studies done concluding that black men are more than six times likely to be murdered than their white counterparts. Center for Disease Control reports around 4,000 blacks are killed by guns in our country.
The famous and rich ones, like Taylor and Williams, will grab national headlines and attention. Yet in the end of the day they are part of a growing (silent) epidemic. How many more will have to die before our nation gives the same attention it's giving Iraq to the war that's going on in our very own streets.
How Will Sean Taylor Be Remembered?
We don't know what happened other than he was shot by an intruder at his home in Miami. Yet most news stories released shortly after his death made it a point to discuss Taylor's run-ins with the law and troubles on the field -- including the seven fines he'd received for late hits and other infractions, a $25,000 fine he incurred for skipping a mandatory rookie symposium after the Redskins drafted him in 2004, and the incident where he was accused of brandishing a gun during a fight in 2005.
Almost as if to say, "he had it coming."
Some journalist have taken a "live by the sword, die by the sword" approach to writing about Sean Taylor's life.
Shortly after the shooting, Washington Post columnist and ESPN personality Michael Wilbon responded with the following in the paper's online chat session:
I know how I feel about
Even though his attorney and friend Richard Sharpstein says his instincts tell him "this was not a murder or a hit," would it stun me if
You see, just because
Was Sean Taylor perfect? No. But who is? If you died tomorrow and the media had access to every soundbite and colorful moment in your life, chances are there would be a few less-than-perfect details surfacing in your obit knocking you down a few notches on the perfect pole.
By the accounts of his friends and teammates, Sean Taylor had become a new man. He had turned is life around, staying out of trouble and focusing on what looked to be an emerging superstar career."It's hard to expect a man to grow up overnight, but ever since he had his child, it was like a new Sean, and everybody around here knew it," Redskins running back Clinton Portis told reporters. "He was always smiling, always happy, always talking about his child."
Perhaps the greatest thing he could do is in death, becoming an example of why we must get back control of our communities. Discover why these senseless tragedies keep occurring and find a way to stop them.
So we can prevent one more unnecessary surgeon or police officer from having to explain to a mother, father or wife that their loved one is dead because some idiot decided to snuff out life.
So that some other child doesn't become another statistic wondering what time daddy is coming home when he in fact isn't.

It's a shame/waste of life.
Maybe this will kick off a campaign of zero tolerance for murder.
Anyone notice that his wife looks white? Does any successful black male marry black women anymore?

I feel you Dre. I posted a how tragic it was post yesterday about another young Black man been cut down. I wish I could unring that bell now after I saw whom he was mating with. He was on the fast track to anglophile-ville. But, still Black on Black crime is big business (I call it dark skin on dark skin crime, we have an innate respect for that which is light among us). Black crime fuels such show as First 48 Hours, Cops and Trauma Center. Our interncine behaviours justifies increases in police ,justice system, and the penal system's budgets. And the masses of Black people don't benefit. Reminds me of Dr. Claude Anderson's book, "Black Labor, White Wealth. Black owned funeral homes benefit too.

Although blacks are 12% of the population in reality it is just 2% of the blacks that commit 50% of the murders and a greater percentage of other crimes. Consider: black females - 6%. Blacks from zero yrs. to 12 yrs. and black males from 50-100 years commit an infinitesimal percentage of the crimes. Therefore we are left with two percent. If we eliminate crimes committed by this two percent from the U.S. statistics our country compares very favorably with all Western countries. Fact -- blacks kill 7 times more than whites kill. Fact -- blacks kill whites 20 times more than whites kill blacks. Fact -- blacks mug or commit group crime against whites 50 times more than whites commit against blacks. Fact -- blacks rape white women 2000 (yes 2000) times more than whites rape black women. In New York City, about 300 white women are raped by blacks every year BUT there has not been a black woman raped by a white male in anybody’s memory (going back over 20 yrs.) Consider: Al Sharpton had to go upstate New York to find a hoax and that was almost 20 years ago. (Source NYT 4/22/05)
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics 2004 report (released May 2006), blacks commit 54 percent of the homicides in America even though they constitute only 12 percent of the population.
An individual black male is seven times more likely to commit murder than an individual white male. It so happens that black felons commit 43 percent of aggravated assaults, 66 percent of armed robberies, 27 percent of rapes and 85 percent of interracial crimes of violence, mainly against whites (this last figure from a Justice Department report 2003).

Of course his friends and teammates are going to say that he was a changed man. But when are today's Black man going to realize that you can't have it both ways. You can't embrace and act like a thug and avoid bad situations at the same time. The articles that were mentioned in the Washington Post was right on target. The problem with us, we don't like to hear the truth. And brandishing a gun around is not something that should be so easily dismissed. He was a bad guy who got killed. There is more to this than a home invasion.

This comment is for josh.. Where did you get your stats? The statements you imply are based upon convictions by jurys not confessions.. And are you counting the murders of Blacks commited by whites in the southern states that still fly the confederate flag where lynching is still in practice but is "white washed" by their confederate minded judicial system? It's as though you want people to believe that the highest percentage of crimes are commited by Black people.. Let's not forget Who the first immigrants of this new found land were.. You should watch "Gangs of New York", that will give you a briefing of the re-invention of crime.. I apologize for not addressing the main topic of this blog but I'm tired of white amerikkka accusing Black people for all the crime in the US. My goodness has any of amerikkka realized that when columbus came here that his crewmen were violent criminals from europe? This country was built on rape, murder and robbery to name a few, and then slavery and the only thing amerikkka credits us with is crime.. WOW.. These blogs are really a wake up call to racism for everyone. WAKE UP

A precious life a gift from god.
The lost of a love one is verry hard.
A son,father ,brother and friend.
With just one shot Shawn life came to a end.
Another black man life lost.
This cycle must stop no matter the cost.
Shawn left behind his little girl.
Without her dad she must face the world.
You will always remain in our heart and soul.
We wii know your there when the skins win the bowl.
So go home Shawn your father is calling.
Down to my cheek a tear has fallen.
