Redskins' safety Sean Taylor is not coming into work today. Not because he feels like playing a game of hooky. Not because work has turned into a never-ending version of 'Office Space.' And certainly not because he's in the middle of some huge contract renegotiation.
No, the reason Sean Taylor isn't coming into work today is tragic but simple. It's because he can't. He's dead.
The Redskins are 5-6 and sinking fast in the wildcard picture. How they turn the ship around to sail into the playoffs doesn't really matter now. At least, it doesn't matter in the way it did before Monday.
Taylor was a punishing hitter (a quality Redskins' fans grew to love), nicknamed "Meast" because he was thought of as half-man and half-beast. He was on the cusp of becoming a major playmaker. He was one of the most feared hitters in the NFL. If Sean Taylor hit you on the field, there was a good chance you could get knocked out.
And yet none of that really matters in the same way anymore.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is calling the death of the Redskins safety a "terrible tragedy" that has left many people struggling to understand it.
Count me as one of those people still struggling. It was just a few Sundays ago I went home to watch the Cowboys-Redskins game with my mom. Following just about every other play she would utter, "If Sean were playing there's no way Terrell Owens would have caught that."
Maybe. Now we'll never know.
It's hard to understand why someone so talented and so young isn't here with us anymore.

There have been some very heartfelt condolences on this site but what irks me is how certain people will play detective and make assumptions and put rumors out there that somehow an accomplice in this murder. What a thing to imply when the facts have not fully been set out. She was Sean's high school sweetheart and they have a precious child together. Can you imagine the pain in her heart right now? If he went to a different part of the house to see what was going on, maybe he told her to stay where she was with the child..the man may have had the thought of protecting his woman and child. Maybe out of fear she did not get to the other part of the house to see what had happened and get real..she must have been scared as hell wondering who and how many were in the house. It is a good question as to why it took so long to make the emergency call..if the phone line was indeed cut then she would have been scrambling to get her cell phone and call emergency services. It is also possible in the shock of what she came upon that she did not think to stop the wound from bleeding. No one can imagine how she feels right now. She will probably be blaming herself that she did not respond as quickly and will always wonder if she had done so..if that would have saved his life. Her man is dead and her daughter now has no father. Until the facts come out, give the woman some respect and not judge her. It is a real tragedy to lose a young man like that who had so much ahead of him in his life.

So Im sorry to sean taylors family. My condolences. I want to say this i started watching his funeral service and it was nice until Jesse "the phony" jackson got up there. come on my black brothers and sisters you all need to stand up to this biggot jesse jackson.
Anyway the bottom line is they can have all the high priced funerals they want for fallen athletes like Mr. taylor that doesn't mean he's in heaven.
It's pretty clear by his tragic murder that as it states absolute power corrupts absolute power. His lifestyle was his death. I'm glad to hear he was attempting to turn his life around thats great.
Heres the fundamental problem though, the bible clearly states your sin will find you out and clearly it found sean taylor out. Hes no different than the millions of other folks who try to turn their lives around and meet a fate like or worse than his.
He a famous athlete, I can understand why it would be more publicized. My solution why not tell people about why they need Jesus as their lord and saviour instead of waiting until their dead and willing them into heaven based on their financial status which is what your beloved jesse jackson does.
Stop letting Jesse Jackson and these false preachers infilitrate and deceive so many others.
Its all about a real Jesus and a real heaven and a real hell. I hope and pray for his sake Mr. Taylor is in heaven because all the power money and fame di dnothing for him.
God Bless all of you
keith

First of all, May God Bless and console each and every member of the Taylor Family My Prayers are with You but get real, If the fiancee was not in on the tragedy that occured at their residence I would be surprised because it doesn't take a practicing physician to know that if blood is steadily coming from an open wound, pressure needs to be applied. Come on people we have E.R. and many other shows on television showing just how to handle these kind of situations. I don't know about You all but if the love of my life is lying there bleeding to death I would have moved Heaven and Earth to save him!!!!
REST IN PEACE SEAN

What happened to right and wrong? What happened to not touching other peoples things. Whatever happened it is all wrong. If you truly realize how powerful thoughts are more time would be focused on the manifestation of better things to come. Look at Sean Taylor he focused on making his dreams a reality. Many should have followed his lead he was a great example of ones thoughts. If some of these so called parents took a look at Pedro Taylor maybe you would know what being a parent was all about. My heart breaks at what we see on a daily basis. Many killed, gunned down for no apparent reason. Our fore fathers suffered greatly to pave the way. They were lynched, hung and suffered many violent acts by others who justified there behaviour. Why would we behave this way towards each other? Its is an aweful shame to live plotting to continue these violent dreadful acts. Is it a shame that you spend your time watching others live and you loose time building a life for yourself. Sean Taylor's blessing was his gift. EARN YOUR OWN!
