It's the battle of the NFC Titans tonight: the 10-1 Cowboys take on the 10-1 Packers. The winner of the matchup will be top dog in the NFC and hold the keys to home-field advantage in the playoffs. Yet there's one catch: the biggest NFC game of the season will be viewable by less than 40 percent of the country.
This showdown is airing on the league-owned NFL Network and if you don't have access to satellite TV, there's a good change you won't see it:
Fans of the nation's most popular televised sport have become pawns in a marketing dispute between the NFL - which is pressing cable companies to carry its fledgling network as a basic offering - and cable operators who have refused to do so or made the network part of sports programming packages that typically cost viewers an extra $5 to $8 a month.Basically it's big money vs. big money.
Don't try to decide who you hate more because both the cable companies and the NFL are screwing you, the fan, royally.
If the NFL really cared about the fans having access to the games, it would just lower its carriage fee so cable companies would offer the network as part of its basic cable package.
Or they would've moved this game to broadcast television. Hellooooo, there's a writers strike going on. I'm sure FOX, CBS or NBC could use the programming.
But don't let the cable companies off the hook. If they were truly concerned about you, the fan, they would iron out a deal with the NFL, one that doesn't involve them essentially blacking out the game for millions of cable subscribers.
So tonight big money wins and the little guy, the fans, lose.
Oh and we assume either the Packers or Cowboys will win too, but can you really call it a win if no one sees it?

It's lose, Cheryl; not loose!! Well, I tell you one thing, "My Cowboys" are winning right now by 17 points and it looks beautiful on my Television. I cannot wait to walk down Madison Avenue in NYC to work tomorrow with my Cowboys gear on. And, I am normally not too thrilled when my DirecTV bill increases since I subscribe to only its basics; nonetheless, as a die-hard sports fan, I am thankful the 'NFL Network' is part of the package. How 'bout them Cowboys? Angela Zanders-Polk

I'm boycotting pro sports as they've become too corrupt. The writers strike has made me realize I don't need cable so I cancelled my subscriptions. It's great, I have extra time now to do some things I love, and a little extra spending money by not paying for cabel.

These tv station will find a way to make someone spend their hard earn money. They need to bring NFL games back to CBS, NBC, AND ABC besides on Sundays. For those who do not have cable, they should not have to add cable to their budget just to watch games that should be on regular tv anyway. Obviously the football and cable world are all about the money and do not realize they are loosing money by keeping things the way they were
