Joe Gibbs Resigns as Redskins Head Coach

Joe Gibbs will resign as coach and team president of the Washington Redskins, according to the Associated Press.

Despite a disappointing second stint as the Redskins' coach, peppered with displays of poor time management and tragic understanding of how and when timeouts can be executed, Joe Gibbs was still very much a water-walking football deity in DC.

Sure, he may've made you wonder if the lights were on upstairs as he manned the sidelines, but ultimately fans knew he was still one of the all-time greats.
The news of his resignation also comes as a surprise as Gibbs led the team through the aftermath of star safety Sean Taylor's murder with the Redskins rallying to win four consecutive games, including one against the Cowboys, their hated rivals, to earn a playoff birth. They lost in Saturday's playoff round to the Seattle Seahawks.

Following Gibbs departure, it is likely that the current assistant head coach-defense Greg Williams will take over, but team owner Dan Synder may have his eyes on a bigger name.

If so, it will cost him. Under Williams' current contract he would receive $1 million if he is passed over the job.
