The honor comes 20 years after Williams was chosen the game's MVP for leading the Washington Redskins to a 42-10 Super Bowl triumph over Denver in San Diego.
Williams set several Super Bowl passing records at the time, including touchdowns (4), yards passing (340) and longest pass completion (80 yards). His team scored a Super Bowl-record 35 points in a span of less than six minutes.
Williams retired as a player in 1989. He replaced his famed coach Eddie Robinson at Grambling in 1997. Currently, he is a personnel executive with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Williams joins Hall of Famers Don Shula and Bart Starr as participants in the trophy ceremony. Since 2006, the NFL has included a great from a former Super Bowl in the trophy presentation.

That was a very exciting superbowl game, and Doug put all of his best in that game. He showed such poise in the pocket as he drilled the passes on target to erase one more historic red neck tale, that Black men can think quick enough, or lead men into battle of the minds,or skills. I was so proud because of the hardship they gave him in Tampa by saying he threw to hard when guys were dropping passes all over the place. That just goes to show the best of quarterbacks can when anywhere, but to be a champion you have to have champions around you as well.

I am so happy that the NFL is FINALLY recognizing him as the man that led his team to a superbowl victory. Over the years, I have heard them reference him as 'the man that was on the team'. Congrats Doug, and I am glad that you are finally getting your props due!

There's always one hater in the bunch...Why don't you ask him about GSU at the Superbowl, idiot?
There's always 2 sides to every story.
Go Doug! Skins for Life!

Super Bowl XXII is my favorite game of all time. I was 8 years old. My aunt gave me a Washington Redskins sweater the week of the game, but I was pulling for John Elway and the Denver Broncos. Big mistake. After trailing 10-0 at the start of the 2nd quarter, Doug Williams and the hogs dropped 35 points
in in less than 6 minutes of possession. My dad never let me live it down, when I tried to switch sides. :) If some of you folks under 20 have never seen this performance, please catch the highlight film, as it's one of the best presentations NFL Films has ever done. The final scene with Doug holding up his helmet in victory is one of the proudest moments in history. Super Bowl MVP as well. Congrats Mr. Williams, I'll be proud to see you present the Lombardi trophy on Sunday.

Hi People, I agree with you Ken #6 on that Idiot #4. It just goes to show that some people can't be jealous without showing it. I for one recorded it on Video and have it to watch on occations when friends come over to hang with the old timers. I'm very happy for Mr.Doug Williams. If you can't say something nice about a person, then don't say anything. There's enough negative crap going around, and to bring up negative things about people shows how little class you have, so please #4 get a life and use ONE DIME to call all of your friends (One if any). Thank you.

It is my opinion that Doug Williams never received do credit for his talent as a NFL Quarterback. It is not near enough and it is long overdue recognition. HOORAY for Doug Williams!!!
I will never forget the following Monday morning at work after that championship performance by Doug Williams. It was the most quiet Monday after the Super Bowl at work that I have ever experienced.
I was an Senior NCO(E9)transitioning with my predecessor who was retiring. Well, both of us made it our business to TACTFULLY(never mentioned race) discuss the game all week. Oh, by the way, my predecessor and I are decorated CIB wearing Black E9s.
