The honor comes 20 years after Williams was chosen the game's MVP for leading the Washington Redskins to a 42-10 Super Bowl triumph over Denver in San Diego.
Williams set several Super Bowl passing records at the time, including touchdowns (4), yards passing (340) and longest pass completion (80 yards). His team scored a Super Bowl-record 35 points in a span of less than six minutes.
Williams retired as a player in 1989. He replaced his famed coach Eddie Robinson at Grambling in 1997. Currently, he is a personnel executive with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Williams joins Hall of Famers Don Shula and Bart Starr as participants in the trophy ceremony. Since 2006, the NFL has included a great from a former Super Bowl in the trophy presentation.

Congratulations to Doug Williams. My old classmate at Grambling State University; Homeboy from Louisiana,
family members from Zachary, Homer, and New Orleans, Louisiana.
Grambling was the good old days with clean fun. How about Sammie White? Professional football player came out of Grambling? All of us classmates on the campus. Hello to all Gramblinites. We are proud of you. Anne Wade (Class of December 1974) Zeta Phi Beta Sorority. Again, congratulations.

I am very happy for Doug Williams, to included in the trophy ceremonies is a great honor, but the greatest honor for me was to watch the superbowl game in which he made NFL history on the field against the Denver Broncos. Congratulations Doug you are one of my greatest heroes outside of my Dad.

Congratulations Doug Williams, It was a great game you played and you had a great pro career, the day after the superbowl my job was on quiet mode for the whole week, they couldnt stand the fact that he won that game, I was so proud to be African American and to put to rest all that non sense about the Black Quarterback. The only thing that still stings was the great Warren Moon never got a ring.

IT WAS GOOD TO SEE WILLIAMS MAKE HISTORY. THAT DAY HE SHOWED HE WAS A QUATERBACK AND NOT JUST A BLACK QUATERBACK

The reason I don't like the Washington Redskins is the abominable way they treated Doug Williams after he came into the game and helped win the Superbowl for the Redskins. I was even more surprised that his teammates and the city of D.C. didn't protest loudly and continuously at this slight.

It is about time the NFL gave Mr. DOUG WILLIAMS the Honors that are so rightly his. I remember that game very well, When Mr. WILLIAMS comb John Elways head with that defeat I truly believe that thoses higher up's in the NFL, the advertisers and others could not take it, this is why he was never given the praise he deserved as Terry Bradshaw, Montana or the other QB's during that time, as the saying goes,"BETTER LATE THAN NEVER", From Doug days in College to Tampa Bay and finally to the Redskins he has always been one of the great QB's, I salute you as I always have, this is you day you have earn it, ENJOY IT REH
