Venus Williams defeated her younger sister, Serena on Saturday to defend her Wimbledon title and then the two sisters joined forces a few hours later to take the Wimbledon Double title. Now Venus and Serena are gearing up to represent the United States in the Olympics in Beijing next month. They already have some gold from the 2000 Olympics but they want to add to their collection."I love the Olympics," Venus told Reuters. "To add to my medals is just, it would be amazing. I know I've got to work for it. It's probably bigger than a slam, I think so, definitely. And you know how much I love Wimbledon, it's bigger than Wimbledon."
The tennis tournaments begin on August 10 with the finals going down on August 16 and 17. There's no reason that the Williams sisters aren't considered favorites to win gold, but on this platform they're trying to prove that they're the best in the word. Can they do it again?

I think they can do it. But they have to work for it. Every country in the competition wants it for
their country. Go for it Venus and Serena.

Yes,Venus and Serena can win the gold. But will they ever especially Venus get the endorsements they deserve. How can Sharapova get more endorsements than Venus?

To Shelley: I agree!! Maria Sharapova has won 2-3 slams and everytime I turn around she's hawking everything from watches to cameras. I know the Williams sisters have 'some' endorsement deals but all I've seen has been a McDonald's commerical. I don't want to scream racism at every turn, but come on!!

I love Venus and Serena! They are superior athletes and as long as they are confident no one can beat them! As far as endorsements, they have some but they aren't white or blond. The same deal with Anna Kournikova who never won one slam!

I would love to see the young Donald Young who won Wimbledon Junior last year in the olympics. He seems a worthy opponent. It seems that no one knows this up and coming tennis great who is has been compared to Ashe and MacEnroe

The cultural reality is that the media are more interested in blue-eyed blonds than chocolate-hued sisters! Thus, the major corporations, in order to make money, will push male and female athletes that will sell to their own demographic. It is partially an economic decision and a culturally-biased one. Neither Venus nor Serena fit the Roman-Greco ideals of beauty. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...and those that own the media can push their stars, champions, heroes and beauty queens.

The article was about Venus and Serena competing in the Olympic Games. What does this have to do with endorsements? I am sure the sisters have plenty of endorsement money. In the meantime, let's stick to the subject. Good luck in Beijing, V & S! Bring home the gold!!
