A story in Florida's Sun-Sentinel reported that Dwyane Wade is facing a lawsuit for breach of contract from former partners Mark Rodberg and Richard von Houtman. Rodberg and von Houtman helped Wade open two restaurants last year and were planning a third. But both D. Wade's Sports Grills shut down in the last couple of months and the plaintiffs are saying it's because Wade didn't fulfill his end of the deal by making the required marketing and promotional appearances on behalf the restaurants.Wade, however, is saying that he did meet his obligations and Rodberg and von Houtman , who are looking for $15,000 and attorney's fees, needed to slow their roll and let the restaurants marinate for a minute before expanding.
"If anything, Dwyane has a concern that the value of his name has been tarnished by ceasing operation of the restaurants," Steven Peretz, Wade's attorney, told the Sun Sentinel. "This is an instance where D. Wade called a timeout on the expectation of the restaurants. The pilot restaurants have not shown any record for success."
Our colleague at CNBC, Darren Rovell, took a look at the idea of athletes starting restaurants, and it's not a pretty picture. While there are some success stories, like Elway's Steakhouse in Denver and Don Shula's steakhouse chain all over the east coast, there are a lot of closures. Here's a partial list of some restaurants that recently closed. The list was gathered by Rovell via HeadlinerDiners.com:
Bob Huggins' Hugg's Inn (Cincinnati, OH)
Brett Hull's Restaurant (St. Louis, MO)
Clyde Drexler's BBQ (Houston, TX)
Don Mattingly's Restaurant (Evansville, IN)
George Brett's (Kansas City, MO)
Larry Bird's Boston Connection (Terre Haute, IN)
Michael Jordan's Restaurant (Chicago, IL)
Michael Jordan's 23 Restaurant (Chapel Hill, NC)
Mickey Lolitch's Donut Shop (Detroit, MI)
Pete Rose's Ballpark Cafe (Boca Raton, FL)
Vin Baker's Saybrook Fish House (Old Saybrook, CT)
Wilt Chamberlain's (Boca Raton, FL)

I think the owners of the restaurants are scamming people. So you mean to tell me that they closed the first two restaurants just because d-wade didn't show up. Be for real. Then they teun around and sue him. That could have been handle in another way. Then what about the restaurant that came before D-wade's? Why did Buckey's close? I think D-wade had nothing to do with these restaurants. They only used his name and wanted him to show up for marketing and promotional purposes. However, it doesn't make since for these people to open restaurants, hire a full staf, then close. It's the owner's fault. They need to pay the bills. But instead they are blaming Dwayne Wade because he didn't show up. People would do anything for money. It's plan and simple. They knew what they were doing. They want to sue Dwayne so they can catch up with all they bills and the people they owe for building the establishment. Why are the workers complaining for not getting compensated for their work? Come on it sounds like a bunch of cheap scamming ass owners who see a successful black brother making it so they brought D-wade into this bull shit to get in his pockets. What a insult. Don't worry Dwayne what comes around goes around. They know exactly what they are doing. Karma is a bitch. Dwayne was fine until they came with a deal talking about they'll pay him 10% and all he hve to do is show up. I honestly think the restaurant would make it off his name regardless. Y'all business owners be think y'all be smart. Pay your fucking bills on time. Run your business right. Now that's a bad look to have big issues before the business even opens. Who want dealings with that negative bullshit. They need to kick their rocks and leave D-Wade the fuck alone. He's doing just fine where he's at. It such a shame how people go after these stars for dollar. It's clear that Dwayne is a target. But don't worry Dwayne Mo money mo problems. Besides I think they moving too fast anyhow. They need to slowed before they reck out for the 3rd time.
