Some athletes drop cash to kids some clothes, others donate to get kids books and toys, but Shaun Alexander really wants kids to learn how to play chess. Alexander may be unemployed right now (he was released by the Seattle Seahawks in April), but he's spending his time and money on kids and chess. The former NFL MVP announced that donated $25,000 from his foundation to America's Foundation for Chess(AF4C) to help bring the thinking man's game to second and third grade students in and around his home state of Kentucky.
"Chess is a terrific game to help children become better thinkers," Alexander said in a statement. "That's why we are teaming up with America's Foundation for Chess to help bring the game into Kentucky's second and third-grade classrooms."
According to AF4C, studies have shown that chess helps advance children's critical thinking skills and test scores. A study on the New York City School Chess Program found that students who learn chess show dramatic improvement in their ability to think rationally. Students who participated in school chess clubs at four Houston-area schools improved their math and reading scores at twice the rate of other students.

Don't want to go too far out on a limb in my praise of Mr. Alexander until I find out who he married and who will benefit from his donations. If both are Black, then he is all good and he is doing what he is suppose to do. If not, chalk up another point for the anglophiles.

Is wife is black, however, she may be a bit light for your ignorant self. That comment in itself set us back about 200 yrs. It's ironic when a so called 'black man' can put someone of his own race down.....you bring a new meaning to the world 'self hatred'

Your comments would offend Dr. King, who fought until death, that men and women not be judged not by skin color, but rather the content of their heart.
Until we can truely forgive we will never be truely free. Shaun Alexander is a free man and has a pure heart.
What have you done for those suffering in Africa lately?
How many of the under-privileged, (Black, white, red, and yellow), have you given your time, to mentor, coach, or just be a friend?
The Bible says it is easy to love your own, but greater love should be shown to those who are not your own otherwise your love is wasted.
Sorry to ramble but Shaun and his brothers grew up spending time in our home and we loved him and his brothers long before you ever heard of him.

Good he married a sista, maybe he can knock that inferior white blood out of her. Talk about setting us back 200 years, it's Negroes like you that are anglophiles. Not a fan of MLK, he was a sell out, he sold out Black Power. As far as Africa, I support Bishop Blake's Save Africa's Children Program and I am surely not a christian, that's slavery.

c.h.e.s.s.=how great,I would hope that one,understands that learnin this game,helps the child's mind.4-sure the kid's REALLY need that.I would hope that some one will MAKE-SURE that black childen will be a part of the program.(seem's no-one REALLY care's what will make them productive person's).however i feel the baby-boomlet could benefit just as well or, you'll keep turning out"post-men-o-pausal women and post-traumatic-stress-disorder-men".WHAT-u-going-2-do?
