Anyone keeping up with the election and campaigns for president knows that Barack Obama has been touting his plan of cutting taxes for the middle class and raising taxes for the rich folks. McCain's plan is... well, there is no plan. McCain will not raise or lower taxes for anyone and keep it as is. New Orleans Hornets baller Tyson Chandler met Obama at a rally last week and then wrote about his thoughts on the whole tax situation on his NBA blog, and brought up a couple of good points. "The way I look at it is that I can afford to pay more in taxes," Chandler wrote. "But my parents, my grandparents, my cousins ... with what they make, they can't afford to cut back in their household with what they're trying to survive with. I can afford to make cuts and still survive. They can't take that knock."
"I think that's what's going on now and the reason why the middle class is struggling so much," he continued. "The upper class, we can take that hit. Obviously, nobody wants to take it, but we still can. And we can afford to live nice lives."
"I've lived in both situations. And not only that, I'm obviously the only one in my family that can say that I'm a millionaire. I've seen my entire family struggle. So, would I rather see my whole family struggle while I get a break, or have me not get a break while the rest of my family gets one? I'll take my entire family getting a break."

This is so silly. The ones complaining about a tax increase are probably not in the tax bracket Obama is talking about. In his plan over 90% of americans will receive a tax break. That's why certain groups has more wealth than blacks because they don't jump ship on their own people trying to assimilate. You should see what happen to Colin Powell when the truck backed up.Who was kicked off first? It's time to think people. If you are a conservative the only thing you have to conserve is slavery and oppression.Don't prove Willie Lynch right!

Here's my view: First of all I'm an older woman but OMG Tyson Chandler is ONE FINE BROTHER AND SMART & ARTICULATE TO BOOT!!!!(Got that out of my system!); 2ndly, on the issue of taxes, I think we all need to recall that in a perfect world we wouldn't have TRILLIONS of $$$$'s in DEBT as a starting pt. for this president! G.W. Bush was left was a SURPLUS and what a mess he and McCain have made of it. SPEND, SPEND, SPEND and making rich folks RICHER. So therefore Todd, we've GOT to manage that reality prior too having a flat tax rate of 18% or 25%(where did you get that # from anyhow, if flat probably would be higher). I don't think that it is fair to tax retired fixed income folks same as a Warren Buffet. But neither does W. Buffet as long as we are "responsibly" taxing folks and doing something other that funding a war that has NO end in sight, and making RICH contractors in Iraq, etc. RICHER. You have to look @ the total picture; THEN after reducing this debt which has taken a terrible toll on our economy can you even think about balancing out the tax rate; Mr Obama has to look at this in totality & not in a vacuum, such has been practiced in the current administration. The Haleburten's (Dick Cheney) and others like him have gotten filthy rich @ the expense of my grandmother, and our future generations are being asked to deal with it!!! If that's what you want to continue, vote for McCain; Otherwise the obvious answer is to vote for OBAMA!!!

I think we need to change our philosophy from a economic base philosophy to a resource base philosophy. As long as we use the dollar/money there will be scarcity and someone at the bottom. We have enough resources to get rid of this way of thinking where no one have to labor and everyone live well. The problem is that we believe someone has to be on top or have more/power. Energy should be put into increasing technology so everyone can live with out struggling. It can be done if the world can come together the way we are suppose to come together. Get educated watch the zeitgeist movie and the addendum. Get out of the matrix we have been put into!

Todd, SHUT the hell up. Yes, the more money you make the more tax you pay fairly simply equation. If you think people who make less money than you are some how lazy or don't work hard, why don't you try to live on minimum wage for a few months.

Most of the posts I have read tout the need for a tax break and all that. For the rich to take a hit and pay more in taxes. All that is secondary to making it fare to all citizens to be able to achieve the dream. A fixed tax rate is theonly way to go. it prvides the umm...government a steady supply of funds to misuse and abuse and it shows that nomatter what we are all in this together, which is what I thought this country was all about.

The flat tax for everyone idea would only work if the country's wealth was somewhat equal among the different classes. Right now the gap between the wealth of the upper 5-10% and every other class is ridiculous.
I'm fortunate enough to be one of the few with a pretty good job and making a pretty good living. But I in no way think I DESERVE my status more or worked harder to get there. Yes I worked hard, but I was also very LUCKY. I don't come close to working as hard or doing anything as important as teachers, police officers, fire fighters, construction workers, or even REAL joe the plumbers. These poeple are the heart of our society and represent the majority of people. They need help. The rich can't continue to get richer while everyone else suffers. It's time for a change.

How many wealth businesses will survive when the middle class stop buying their goods. If 84 % of the nation says no more, it will be a short battle.
