Over the weekend it seemed that Plaxico Burress was trying to protect himself a little too much. According to various reports, the Giants wide receiver, who was out with an injury, shot himself in the right thigh Friday night while out at night club in New York. He was taken to a hospital and released early Saturday morning. Not much more information about the incident was given except that it was an accident.
Now's there's rumors that Plax tried to cover it up and used an alias at a New York hospital.
Burress turned himself to New York Police on Monday morning to answer to charges of criminal possession of a weapon. According to Burress' lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, Plaxico is planning to plead not guilty to the charges. Burress is facing at least 3 1/2 years in prison if he's convicted on gun charges.
"I do not expect that Mr. Burress will make a statement," Brafman told the Associated Press. "I would ask that his fans, the Giants and the media withhold judgment in this matter until all of the facts have been disclosed."
Despite the incident, the New York Giants won their game against the Washington Redskins and coach Tom Coughlin briefly addressed the Burress situation after the game.
"We all are upset about what happened with Plaxico, and hopefully he's going to be fine and so on and so forth. That's our first concern," Coughlin said. "Once that was taken care of, we knew that he was OK, then the guys got right back to focusing on the reason we were here."
Coughlin and the rest of the Giants' brass wouldn't comment further on the incident until all the facts are out in the open.
Most fans think the Giants can make a Super Bowl return without Burress.

not the smartest thing to do and should be punished accordingly but i definetly have a problem with the mayor speaken out on this so fast and harsh.when unarmed black men are killed the night before there wedding and cops is found acquitted ,dont see him speaking up and saying something needs to be done bout this.what message is he sending?

Did PLAX. HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE STEELERS AND THEY KEPT IT QUIET?
SOME OF THESE GUYS HAVE HAD THEIR BEHINDS SMOOCHED BY HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE AD'S AND COACHES BECAUSE OF THE FINANCIAL PERKS THAT ARE INVOLVED. YOU DONT THINK COLLEGE COACH'S ARE GOING TO MAKE A FUSS OVER A TD MAKING PLAYER AND THE TEAM IS HEADED FOR A BOWL GAME.
LETS FACE IT, IN SPORTS EVERYTHING IS BASED ON MONEY.
PLAXICO'S PROBLEM STARTED LONG BEFORE HE CAME TO THE PROS.

You know something? I'm sick and tired of tired ass brothers going out and messing up and then having peope apologizing for them. The brother just got a $35 million dollar extension from a black GM and somebody is ready to call him a "whipping boy"
Plaxico is thirty years old. Time to act like a man then you don't get mistaken for a "whipping boy" Brothers stand up and be MEN! I had at least two relatives who didn't kill themselves during their kidnapping. I owe THEM an effort, in a country now that they couldn't imagine, at least equal in spirit to thier effort hundreds of years ago.
