Barry Bonds Wants to Break More Records

The last game Barry Bonds played was as a San Francisco Giant on September 26, 2007. That year he captured the record for the most home runs at 762. He was a free agent after that season but no Major League Baseball wanted him on their squad. It's reasonable that a team wouldn't want a player who is facing federal charges on lying under oath stemming from when he testified in court to never knowingly taking performance-enhancing drugs during the grand jury investigation of BALCO.

But according to the San Francisco Chronicle, the 44-year old slugger recently had hip surgery with hopes of coming back next season. His hip won't be fully healed before spring training, but could be good to go for opening day - if any team really wants him. He recently told TMZ.com that he still wants to play though, but really didn't give up his plans.

"I'm not retiring," Bond told the cameraman. "No, not at all. I'm not retiring."

If Bonds does come back next season there will be a nice stack of records he'll probably try to set or beat. According to the Chronicle, Bonds needs 38 home runs to reach 800, 65 hits to reach 3,000 and four RBIs to reach 2,000. He's 69 runs scored from breaking Rickey Henderson's record and 38 extra-base hits from breaking Hank Aaron's. Would you root for him to make history once again?
