N.C. A&T may be turning to a familiar MEAC face to turn the Aggies football program around. A&T appears close to signing Morgan State defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Alonzo Lee as its next head coach, something the Aggies have been without since Lee Fobbs was kicked to the curb on Oct. 20. Under Lee, MSU packed one of the top defenses in the Football Championship Division in 2008, allowing an average of 213.4 yards per game.
Lee's previous coordinator stops include Howard, Hampton and A&T, and he knows a thing or two about winning, with four MEAC championships on his resume. He also earned the 1998 national assistant coach of the year award in what was then called Division I-AA. Once Lee signs, it'll be his first head coaching assignment and turns the page for A&T, which went 3-8, 1-6 in the MEAC.
The once-proud Aggies have suffered through five straight losing seasons in addition to a 27-game losing streak from 2006-08. No word yet on the fate of interim coach George Ragsdale, who has been holding down the fort since Fobbs' ouster and remains active on the recruiting trail.
