On early Wednesday morning, Michael Vick was released from a federal prison in Leavenworth, Kan., and started making his way home to Virginia.
Vick was convicted to 23 months in prison for running and financing a dogfighting ring but will be able to serve his final two months in home confinement. Vick will only be allowed to leave his home to work his $10 an hour construction job and activities approved by his probation officer. His sentence ends on July 20 and then he will serve three years of probation. ...
And while Vick will be lobbying to get his job back in the NFL, he will also be joining forces with the Humane Society of the United States, the largest animal welfare group in the country, to help stop dogfighting. Wayne Pacelle, president and CEO of the Humane Society confirmed that he met with Vick and will partner with the former NFL star to reach out to Black youth about dogfighting.
"We were very involved in criticizing Vick for conduct which we found reprehensible, and we strongly supported law enforcement and judicial action that led to his incarceration," Pacelle told ESPN.com. "I don't think anyone was tougher on him than we were. But the goal was never the continued punitive treatment of Michael Vick. The goal has always been to eradicate dogfighting in America and around the world.
We've done a lot of work on the law enforcement side but one area we've invested resources but that remains a major cultural and sociological problem is outreach to young African-Americans in urban centers where there's widespread dogfighting. I'm open to the possibility of plugging [Michael Vick] into programs and activities in order to ward off these boys from illegal dogfighting activities. It's 'boots on the ground,' not just PSAs and talk but doing work with young people consistent with the work we do now."
Pacelle said he believes the Vick is truly remorseful but action will speak louder than words and it all comes on Vick's shoulders if he's in it for the long haul. In the meantime, PETA still refuses to work with Vick until he gets a "brain scan" to prove he's not psychotic.

My problem with Vick is not the fact the he was dog fighting ( bad enough) but he was killing animals in such a cruel way. Execution style.
Drowning the dogs, electrocuting the animals, and tortuing the animals. What kind of sick mind does these type of things. The man has issues. So my question would be is he mentally stable enough to back to playing football, or should he spend some time in therapy.

Mike Vick has a more problems than just dog fighting, Something is wrong with him mentally, he tortured the animals, killed the dogs by drowning and electrocuting them. Most killers start with animals and work their way up. Before he goes back to playing football he needs to get some help.

Its really simple, he comited a crime and has finished his time. If the people want him to play ball play ball, and to the one that has a problem with hunting and guns, i have been all over the world including africa for 6 years and they hunt for there food to feed there familys. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. i am very sorry for the mother and family you speak of but if he would have run her over in his dads car you would not say take cars away!

It's very simple, he comited a crime and finished his time which i thought was not nearly enough time for his crime. Prime example of how this stars are treated!( OJ SIMPSON ) To the one that does not like guns, remember guns dont kill people, people kill people. If he ran her over in his dads car would you be saying take away cars, i don't think. I have traveled all over the world and spent six years in Nigera, Africa and they all hunt for there food there with any means available, alot of times a gun or something alot more painful than that but they eat what they kill same as we do. I don't Vic was eating dogs so he was comiting a crime! not a hunter feeding his family.

The majority of people who engage in the sport of hunting are killing animals for fun, not to put food on the table.

Anybody familiar with legal cases knows the details are often trumped up, made up and all to get a win. The thugs who made up the disgusting stories about Vicks actions were trying to save their own hides! Anybody who believes a word these true ringleaders said is naive.

I am so hurt by the way we quickly turn our back on our people (and our culture). Is it not ones culture/recreation (how deep you want to read in to it is up to you) to hunt deer, rabbit ducks, birds… is not a dog of the same fauna?..... Did not DICK CHENEY shoot some one on a hunting trip... but seemingly since it is our BLACK PEOPLES recreation/culture we are punished for it...... is this really fair or conditioning in FULL AFFECT? SOMEONE ELSES take on recreation and ultimately ones true culture being forced on others . Do we not eat ever damn type of animal that walks the earth, we slaughter them, roast them, fry them…… so cause Vick fight with his GAME he loses 26 months of his life, his career as the BEST BLACK QB and ultimately part of his dignity (cause people coming at this man side ways) for those that FEEL ME…..come on is this real.
Children love Bambi and Roger Rabbit but do we hunt down the people who hunt deer, and rabbits and throw organizations at them like the PETA … (like oh since it is the “PETA” who should respect that HELL WHAT IS THE PETA hell I like the NAACP but everything they represent is not forced on society) and harshly accuse them of being inhumane , a criminal, not even human or ya psychotic...hummmm really. Well again we must try and remain vigilant and look at the big picture and protect who we are…. hell…. seems like that’s really all we have left…Well I will try and remain abreast but as you know the rent man will be at the door or some freak incident always seems to come up when you get too interested in a cause.
