One of the reasons nobody is talking about Charles Barkley's DUI that he got late last year is because he was honest and upfront about the situation and apologized. Honesty is one of Barkley's strengths, even though it may come out a bit weird. In a recent interview with AZ Central, Barkley admitted that he stills has a drink or two, but that his gambling lifestyle is on hold."You think about it, and I've been in the NBA since 1984 ... 25 years. So let's say just going out to dinner or going out with your friends probably 100 times, 200 times a year. I've had something to drink and driven. So to never hurt myself or anybody and never get a DUI, I was very lucky," Barkley told AZ Central. "I like to drink. ... I haven't missed the gambling to be honest with you. I needed to take a break from gambling, because I was losing."
Barkley vowed that he would stop gambling for a while after news came out that he owed more than $400,000 in gambling markers and loans to the Wynn Las Vegas Casino. He's been gamble-free for almost a year.
"Nobody ever complains about gambling when you're winning," he said. "I've never heard a guy say, 'Hey, I'm winning too much money, I'm going to quit gambling.' But my gambling had gotten to be a problem. I said I was going to take some time off. I'm going to start gambling again whenever I get ready, to be honest with you. ... I like to gamble."
Well, when you have as much money as Barkley, gambling is a little bit easier.

Finally a blog to comment on the obvious lack of speaking style by this gentleman. Aside from the fact that he has some personal problems, one most obvious is his very limited vocabulary and command of english grammar. It reminds me of someone running their fingernails across a blackboard when this brother speaks during any public event where he is asked his opinion. I do believe that he did have an opportunity to take advantage of the english, grammar and composition opportunities during his college career. Yes, yes, yes he has money, but it does nothing for those of us who sit and watch the commentary with our children who know better. Try college again, Charles.

I really, really hope that CB does not end up another "stupid black athlete that dies broke". There have been so many. Just last weekend I was telling my oldest son how the IRS ruined Joe Louis' life, but in most cases the ruination is self-imposed. Its not hard to predict: take one black male, no father, horrible neighborhood, add incredible sports ability & no one ever making him actually go to class, learn to read, etc., and top it off with maybe a year or two of college, during which he gets almost 0 credits, and what you get is.... I don't want to see CB end up like this. I can still remember meeting a former U. Ga. player who had one of his "bowl rings" on (those rings sure are big!). He was bagging our groceries at a Krogers.

Thats an honest statement, admitting he loves to gamble. But like everyone said, I hope he wont end up broke and empty coz of it.
