Shaquille O'Neal Gets New Reality Show Battling Other Athletes

It has been a busy off-season for Shaquille O'Neal, with his move from the Phoenix Suns to the Cleveland Cavaliers, but it's about to get even busier. Shaq and ABC have a struck a deal to air 'Shaq Vs.,' a new reality show starring the big fella as he competes against other athletes in their sports.

Set to start airing on Aug. 18, Shaq will compete against Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in football, Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps in swimming, Oscar de la Hoya in boxing, St. Louis Cardinal Albert Pujols in baseball, Serena Williams in tennis and Olympians Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh in volleyball.

Shaq told USA Today that he came up with the idea as a fun way to train for the upcoming NBA season and recruited a majority of the athletes through Twitter. The episodes will feature Shaq talking trash with the competing athletes and getting to know them and how they play the sport, with the finale being the competition.

"He's very playful. Almost everyone can relate to him. He has a fun sort of childish persona, and at the same time, he's a superstar," says John Saade, co-chief of ABC's reality programming. "Our real hope is you come for the absurdity but you stay for the sport."

Shaq is still trying to recruit Lance Armstrong for the show.
