J.R. Smith: 'I'm Not a Gang Member'

Last week, Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith was catching heat from his apparent "gang-related" posts on the microblogging site Twitter.com.

In some of his posts, the baller would replace his Cs with Ks, an act usually associated with the Bloods. Yahoo! Sports caught up with Smith, who told Adrian Wojnarowski that he isn't reppin' any type of gang.

"I'm not a 'hood guy," said the New Jersey native. "I'm not a street guy. And I'm not a gang member."

"J.R. grew up in the woods of Millstone," his father, Earl, added. "There's no Bloods. There's no Crips. The only gangs were the deer."

But what bothers Smith the most isn't what writers print about him, but what his daughter will think in the future.

"That's what hurts the most," Smith said. "When my daughter gets to be 16 or 17, and she has a paper to do in high school on her parents and she has to go back and look at these articles about me ... all these negative things."

But there still wasn't an explanation about the letter replacement. Regardless, his Twitter account has been deleted, so don't expect more unorganized public commentary in the near future.
