Former New York Giants' wide receiver Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon and will serve two years in prison and two years of probation. If the case had gone to trial, Burress would have faced a three-and-a-half-year sentence, but he was offered a last-minute deal for only two years if he pleaded guilty. Last month, Burress was indicted after turning down a deal that would have required him to serve only three months. He didn't want to go to jail, so he decided to fight the charges.
The charges stem from an incident in November of last year when Burress took a loaded pistol into a New York nightclub, and accidentally shot himself in the thigh.
Burress isn't signed to an NFL team, and at 34, he may have a tough time coming back to the league in two years.

It's a shame Michael Vick went to prison for 2 years but Plexico TOO? What is going on? Ok, he had a loaded weapon and shot himself in the thigh? Nobody got hurt but himself. Ok, he had a loaded weapon and didn't have a license to care one? I am just shocked to here this, 2 year sentence? The article does say, that Plexico Burress was indicted on the charges after turning down a plea deal that would have had him serve only three months. He didn't want to go to jail so he decided to fight the charges"? Can we say DUMB MOVE? I am glad to see no one getting hurt that night of the incident but you never know, something else could have went wrong? I mean, it's not like Plexico was going out to kill somebody? He made a stupid mistake and now has to pay for the crime and due the time.
I don't believe his career will be over when he comes out in 2 years He is only 34 now? Just like Michael Vick, I'm sure some team will pick him up when he gets out. I am outrage in seeing our talented black athletes being sentencing to long term for their senseless and stupid crimes? Come on? I hope that this will send a message to everybody about carrying loaded weapons without a licence. I say, make the right choices and obey the law so you won't be punished and end up in jail.
