Plaxico Burress Gets 2 Years on Weapon Possession Charge

Comments (1)

Former New York Giants' wide receiver Plaxico Burress pleaded guilty to one count of attempted criminal possession of a weapon and will serve two years in prison and two years of probation. If the case had gone to trial, Burress would have faced a three-and-a-half-year sentence, but he was offered a last-minute deal for only two years if he pleaded guilty.

Last month, Burress was indicted after turning down a deal that would have required him to serve only three months. He didn't want to go to jail, so he decided to fight the charges.

The charges stem from an incident in November of last year when Burress took a loaded pistol into a New York nightclub, and accidentally shot himself in the thigh.

Burress isn't signed to an NFL team, and at 34, he may have a tough time coming back to the league in two years.

Is his career over? Do you think Eli Manning would have gotten two years if he shot himself with an illegal gun?
