Since retired baseball player Sammy Sosa revealed his new complexion and then attributed it to a cream, the cacophony of speculation and debate has not abated. Former basketball forward and colorful sports commentator Charles Barkley added his voice to the discussion during a TNT doubleheader on Thursday night.
After showing a quick picture of Tina Fey and Sarah Palin, the cast cut to the split image we've all come to know: Sosa before and after his skin-color change. Things got funnier, as Barkley and cast tried to visualize what it would look like if both colleague Kenny Smith and Barkley were to turn white.
Once the altered images disappeared, Smith rambunctiously yells, "Say it loud, Chuck... I'm black and I'm proud." Barkley is then shown with a makeup artist applying white makeup to his face while he asks, "If I become white, am I allowed to eat chicken, hamhocks and neck bones?"
As Smith guffaws Barkley continues:
"Seriously, I love chitlin's.... I'm telling y'all, though, if I was white for a couple of minutes, I'd be missing some chitlin's and hamhocks already. What about honey buns and grape and coke?
Then they switch to a clip of Sosa done up like the infamous joker, red lips in tow.
Barkley ends with:
Sammy Sosa, you know I got love for you, man, Stop it! Stop It, Sammy Sosa! Are you kidding me?
Check out the video:
Barkley's treatment of the Sosa scandal is classic.

You actually wasted your time to state such a ludicrous comment? Ha ha. I see your language arts skills were never mastered, I pity your parents for paying tax revenue in lieu of your education! I'm baffled you'd even attempt conversing abroad, knowing entirely that you are an imbosol with nothing positive or enlightening to bring to the table. I'm almost certain that you are a want-to-be whom is either dating an afro-american gentleman & ignorantly assimilating his livelihood, or you're just plain ignorant trash period...take care ;0).

IF I APLLIED A SKIN "MOISTURIZER" TO MY SKIN, AS SAMMY SOSA CLAIMS HE DID, AND IT HAD THE SIDE EFFECT OF CHANGING MY COMPLEXION SEVERAL SHADES LIGHTER (OR DARKER), I'D BE SUING THE MANUFACTURER FOR MILLIONS. WHEN IS SOSA GOING TO FILE HIS LAWSUIT SINCE HE CLAIMS THIS WAS AN UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCE OF USING A "MOISTURIZER"?

I can understand why you would think this. But I am going to explain to you why that is not the case. On a superficial surface level, it is absolutely the same thing as Black Face (Whites putting on makeup to make their skins darker to pretend to be Black). However, what makes it racist is not the act itself, but rather the historical racial implications. Black face has been used in American history as a means of portraying Blacks as menial, stupid, and foolish. The purpose of Black face historically has been to reaffirm the notion that Whiteness is superior. With the overarching notion that Whiteness is superior, a Black person wearing makeup to appear White doesn't hold the same "racist" weight if you will.
Although I am not suggesting that anyone paint their faces to mock anyone else. Regardless of history, that is problematic.

I agree with your comment. If some white sport caster or entertainer did what C. Barkley did we would be calling it racist and asking for that person be terminated. C. Barkley needs to shut down; he is not funny (acting like a minstrel). He sure did not act like that at Auburn University(he would have never got out of there alive (clowning around). Mr. Barkley, let it go; we see your "fat ass" as Pippen called you. You are good as a sport analyst, I like you, but man: Chill out!
