First-year University of Tennessee head football coach Lane Kiffin has been looking to raise the profile of his sleepy football program for months, calling out rival coaches in the Southeastern Conference and talking up the talent he is bringing to Knoxville.
Well, Kiffin now has more attention than he could have ever wished for, but it's of the unwanted variety.
The three UT players and a female friend were arrested for allegedly trying to hold up two people at an off-campus convenience store. Two of those arrested, Janzen Jackson (pictured middle), 18, and NuKeese Richardson (right), 18, are two prize recruits brought to Tennessee by Kiffin. Also arrested was Mike Edwards (left), 18, who is also on the football team, and Tennessee student Marie Montmarquet, 22, who was driving the car the men used, according to Knoxville police.
The two robbery victims told police they were approached by two men in black hoodies. One took out a handgun, which turned out to be a pellet gun, and told the victims, "Give us everything you got!" They didn't receive anything from the intended victims and left the scene before being apprehended by police.
Knoxville police charged all four with three counts of attempted robbery, and Montmarquet faces additional drug charges.
Ironically, Kiffin was on a telephone news conference with reporters earlier this week, saying how proud he was of members of his team because they had stayed clear of any off-the-field incidents this season.
The players' status on the team has not yet been decided, as an investigation in to the arrests continues.

dominican dude WROTE: "Typical dumb monkeys" ---###--- Obviously you don't know monkeys -- they are NOT "typically" dumb; that's reserved for humans (ethnicity not impt.) ... like you. If you ARE black, then you suffer from that old plantation malaise called SELF-HATRED. Makes you feel better than other blacks, doesn't it? Others are stupid, but you are smart. (Probably hate your mom and dad, too -- if you even know who they are). Lighten up; improve yourself and stop condemning others. Heard the story about the crawfish in the barrel? LET GO OF MY LEG!

Gheez, too bad and so sad!! Hopefully, these youngmen get a "foot to azz" that brings them back to reality so they can cut out all of the foolishness...How shameful, embarrassing yourself, and your parents/family...C'mon I can't believe they thought they would get away with this crime. Hope they learned something, get another chance and be "productive" in society instead of a damn menace.

First let me state that I am a black male, and that I for one have stopped my children from watching rap videos. i watch these videos and see so much high price bling and cars to the point i get sick. No, I am not a rap basher by any means, but our youth thinks the only way to show your success is to obtain and flash such items. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the nicer things in life but all must come in due time. No one wants to wait anymore, just get it fast; by any means neccessary. The actions of the four teens are one of many examples that has to be addressed. Kids stop trying to move so fast! My college years were one of many trials of life that I enjoyed most. Slow down and enjoy the journey and with great endurance you will live to sit on your porch and tell your grandchildren about all the great moments.

They got scholarships simply for playing games and keeping their grades fair! The only thing special is the emphasis placed on entertainment and sports idolatry!
I'm confident their parents would have fell for an emergency cash need if they would but spit in their cell phones!
Why didn't the exploited athletic prospects have jobs at the university or in the township, since they think they own the boys! Game time, all you hear is hooting and hollering, using the boys like tools they own!
Or, is it that these punks are so spoiled and stupid, they thought they were acting a part in the movies? Were they wearing those stupid "m&m's/dupont/mars/loony tunes/" logo jackets?
Negros are soooooo commercial!
