NBA player Dwight Howard obtained an injunction against Royce Lyndsay Reed, his baby's mother, that prevents her from "using or publishing (orally, in writing or otherwise), directly, indirectly or by innuendo, [Dwight's] name, nicknames, image, brand photographs, and/or likeness."
Howard led the Orlando Magic to the NBA finals last year and now a court may have helped him slam dunk attempts by his child's mother to become a reality television star.
Reed was allegedly angling to appear on a new reality show called "NBA wives," even though she isn't even married to the guy. The injunction may shut that down.
According to Zimbio, Reed, a former Orlando Magic dancer, has bad-mouthed Howard in the past, calling him a deadbeat dad on her blog, Twitter and during an interview with ESPN.
I'm not sure how involved Howard is with his son, Braylon. He claimed paternity of the child but was sued by Reed for child support a year later, as he should have been if he was not providing financially for his child or she wanted to legally ensure financial support.
There are a couple of lessons we should take from this ugly situation.First, I'm not sure that some people realize that having sex can lead to a life-long connection whether you like it or not. Condoms and birth control are not 100 percent effective, especially if not used properly or inconsistently. I told my nephews that anytime you have sex, you could end up as someone's father. That may mean having to deal with someone you no longer want to deal with for 18 plus years.
Second, I'm tired of people using their personal lives as reality television fodder in the interest of getting paid. There are people, such as Paris Hilton and the Kardashians, who are simply famous for being famous. That same ideal has spread to the general public. Some people document the minutia of their lives on Facebook and Twitter as if anybody should really care that you hate going to work on Mondays.
If Reed feels that Howard is not handling his financial responsibilities, she should take it up with the courts. Howard should provide more than financial support, because he chose to sleep with Reed. He should be an integral and vital part of his child's life; however, that process should not be negotiated on NBA Wives, in the tabloids or over Twitter.
Reed shouldn't be famous solely because she had sex with Dwight Howard and conceived a child. The child birth process begins hundreds of thousands of times per day. Maybe her energy should be focused on developing a career that does not involve divulging details of her social life.
I like watching Howard play, even though I'm a long-suffering Knicks fan. He ge's critiqued every day for his play on the court. (NBA analyst Charles Barkley thinks Howard's game should be more advanced than it is). However, his job as a father does not need to be critiqued for all the world to see. How would your marriage or child-rearing skills look if they were put in to the reality television grinder?
So, bravo to Howard for stepping in to the lane and swatting this one back into the third row. For now.

I think Dwight did the right thing and think Tiger should do the same ASAP. Yes Tiger slept around, bu did not father kids with unwed mothers.
Tiger should have gone on the legal attack after Elin hit him in the mouth with a driver and burst the windows out of his car. If he had pressed charges for spousal abuse, the publicity would have ended quickly.
