Former heavyweight boxing champ Evander Holyfield is broke as a joke, so he's finding any way he can to make some money to pay off his debts and keep current with his child support payments. Holyfield was somehow able to secure a fight with Francois Botha, a 41-year-old boxer who is also considered washed up, for the World Boxing Federation heavyweight championship belt."I am very much looking forward to going to Uganda, and I expect a tough fight against Francois Botha," Holyfield told the Associated Press. "I am going to win, and I will cherish the WBF world title."
The fight is set for Jan. 16 in Uganda's Nambole Stadium, and Holyfield believes that if he can pull out a win, he could work his way back to fighting for more "prestigious" belts. At the same time, however, Botha is trying to rebound from his fight against Pedro Carrion in October, which was ruled a draw.
"I have always been my own harshest critic. My performance against Carrion, without making any excuses, was arguably the worst of my career," Botha said. "Expect the fittest, toughest and best ever -- and extremely serious -- Francois Botha in Uganda in January. I owe my fans and members of Team Botha the performance of my life. I intend to make good on that."
There's no word of the purse the fighters will get or where the fight will be broadcast, if it'll be broadcast at all.

This is a crying shame! He is 47-years-old and still boxing. He should be enjoying retirement. I can't understand how someone like him could have lost everything and not have saved anything. This has to stop in the black community. We need to learn how to save. He might have to start off by listening to Dave Ramsey on the radio and possibly buying his "Financial Peace University" course. That should be good start.

Too old to be stupid, Evander. Why didn't you hang onto that money and invest in rental and lease properties? Instead he buys car dealerships and restaurants that obviously didn't do well. Nobody watches heavyweight fights anymore. The fact that Botha is the WBF champion should tell you that. All the money is with Mayweather/Pacquiao divisions of middleweights and light middleweights. Besides, one of them russians will just take the belt from you anyway and really end up hurting you.

Mr. Holyfield must desperately need money or he wouldn't be putting his 47 year old, already pounded to death body through this.
