Today, Tiger Woods finally did what everyone expected him to do: He spoke out on his own behalf. The world waited for months to hear a peep from the man who has decided to do one of the greatest disappearing acts the sports world has ever seen. When there was no Tiger, there was no professional golf.
The press conference was starting on the wrong foot, as there was buzz of a boycott from golf writers, who felt that Tiger was not giving proper respect to the media by refusing to allow them to ask questions. There was also the ire communicated from his fellow golfers, such as Ernie Els, who called Tiger "selfish" for giving his press conference on a Friday, during a tournament sponsored by Accenture.
What Ernie Els failed to remember is that Accenture is the company that dropped Tiger, when he was being embarrassed by the media. There is no reason that Tiger should be the least bit hesitant about stealing the headlines away from their golf tournament. Perhaps had Accenture not decided to abandon Tiger, he might not have abandoned them.
Tiger's mother was there, the PGA Commissioner was there and one of Tiger's roommates from college was in attendance. Who was missing from the press conference? Well, the press. I'm not sure if you can actually call this a press conference when you've chosen to exclude the media. The other glaring absence from the room was Tiger's wife, Elin.
Tiger came on to stage looking like the nerdy golfer that he is, but nerdy works when people are trying to figure out whether you really are a sex addict. Additionally, Tiger seemed to take responsibility for his actions, apologizing to those he let down, letting us know that he is now in the process of rebuilding his life. The best move for Woods at the end of the press conference was a long hug he shared with his mother, who was in the front row. While I am sure the hug was natural, it was likely an advised move to replicate the famous hug Tiger shared with his father, Earl, after winning the 1997 Masters Tournament.
The statement started off contrived, like a mere formality or some kind of political announcement. But such is the life when you are a billion dollar entity and every word has to be carefully constructed. Tiger has a lot of people depending on him, and as the press conference wore on, he became more comfortable in his own skin. I also got the sense that Tiger is not going to quit. He admitted that he is determined to "live a life of integrity" and to make amends with those who love him. The press conference lasted longer than I thought it would, deviating from the typically stoic and terse nature of Tiger Woods' normal statements to the media. Tiger's press conference eventually became more of a lecture on good values, healthy living and intelligent decisions than a vanilla ice cream apology from a guy who is trying to get his money back. Woods even went in to a conversation about the teachings of Buddhism, how the incident has led him to more deeply reflect on his spiritual life and helped him become "more centered."
Tiger did not rule out a return to golf this year. He did mention, however, that he is not certain of when that date will be. If you ask me, Tiger is going to make his return this season. He can't miss a year when all of the major championships are being played on golf courses that have been kind to him in the past.
One thing that Tiger made clear during his press conference is that he is not interested in discussing this issue in the future. He doesn't want to talk about the women, his marriage or the mistakes he might have made. He also made it clear that he has never used performance-enhancing drugs. He came off as a strong family man, standing up for the integrity of his wife and demanding that the media not follow his children to school. Tiger consistently made the point that he is working to become a better human being and will eventually live up to the image that the rest of the world once had of him. Good job, Tiger, by putting this behind you, you can more easily rebuild your reputation.
Even after his press conference, Tiger Woods is going to remain strong, focused and eventually dominate the sport he has come to love. Go get 'em, Tiger. You're still a champion.

Dear Dr
F.O. & D.
Tiger needs to decided how he wishes to deal w/ his wife. That is his business. As to everyone else, IMO he should tell everyone fuck off and when he plans to rejoin the circuit.
He tells everybody fuck off in the following manner. If I am currently endorsing you you must decide into writing within 96 hours if he represents them or not. If they don't reply bye. If they say no bye. If they say yes you do the events, wear the clothes and play with the equipment and honor any other commitment.
He sets his date to return. He practices and then wins. The sponsors who want back will return when he breaks the record and sets the new one.
As to money he shouldn't run out.
Your approach of kissing everyone's ass is repellent to me.

Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nickolas what do they have in common? They upheld the integrity of the game and their own character. Tiger has lost the respect of Golfers around the Globe, you cannot get that back, I don't care how many more Tournaments he wins, he now has the *asterisk

All right, everyone, cards on the table. Everyone keeps saying that Tiger keeps forgetting he's black. Why? Because of his skin color? Or because he was raised differently we keep thinking he's abandoned the Black race? I say this is a load of BS.
Tiger is part-Asian (Thai) to be exact. Why is this a problem with those of us who think we're all the way black? Our experiences make us share a common goal but Tiger can't seem to please Black people. Why?
Why is this situation different from Kobe Bryant? I didn't hear as many voices being as critical to Bryant...oh yeah...he had AN AFFAIR with a white woman, not being MARRIED to one. But Bryant got instantly forgiven.
I had the hard responsibility of putting together a tribute for my nephew after he lost a long battle with sickle cell, and that meant going through old family photos. In my family, I found photos of many relatives many ancestors of different backgrounds and since I had met some during a family reunion so many years ago. I can't disavow my heritage - what makes me "me" - despite my skin color. I went through struggles like a Black person, but my grandmother taught me Spanish because she was part-Mexican. You expecting me to give that up is ridiculous.
By the way some of these posters are writing, Tiger should abandon his Thai heritage because of his skin color. That is wrong, because you are saying he should abandon his mother, the one who gave birth to him!
That being said, we all should leave them alone and let them heal. He, Elin, and the family need to work this out without interference.
And for some of you who don't think sex addiction is real, it is very real.

Before the apology:
Seriously? Tiger is going to apologize? For what? To who? Who does he owe an apology outside the countless walls of his Florida home? Besides that blonde head blue or hazel-eyed trophy wife?
Some will immediately say, 'to the kids who looked up to him.' Again, really?
Do we honestly think the average kid gives a damn that Tiger was out banging any and every non-black woman he came across? H*ll, most male teenagers were high-fiving when they heard about his exploits! He got 'man points' for his behavior!
Not, that he deserved the accolades. I do wish sometimes that I had his stamina…LOL!
What did we expect from America when this went down, when he got caught-up? I will answer that:
*Ridicule (endless jokes)
*Judgment (deserved)
*A Demanded Apology (Wow! From Americans?)
The apology to the cease pool that created him is on its way. 11AM sharp Friday! No questions will be permitted. I guess now those pathetic Americans needing an 'I am sorry' will be satisfied...without anything changing.
He still a Tiger!
America makes you, glorifies you, uses you for its selfish insecurities, enables you, humiliates you, then forgives you as long as you sit in front of a camera and further make an azz out of yourself.
I just love this place…

Here we go again. "I'm sorry America for being successful and making a few mistakes. I now allow you to beat me over my head with your headline news stories, blogs and other non-news worthy stories about my character. You are allowed to do this until you break my spirit so that I no longer function in the capacity in which you made me rich and famous. I now join the legions of other notoriously famous Black Americans that were psychologically crippled by your pathetic moral and ethics code. Have your way with me, my dear sweet America."

I totally agree with Ellice. The thing that gets me is his best friend who arranged his marriage. He is your best friend and you do not know how he is behaving? Really? Elin, like so many other people who think they can change another person by marrying them. We do not know what was going on in his marriage, sometimes its the small things that push a man or a woman away. I am glad he kept quiet about it he does not owe anyone an apology. Taghauer made a lot of money from Tiger's name and so did alot of other sponsors. They got something in exchange for the endorsement, it was a two-way street. Golf was of no interest to me before Tiger. I saw it as an eletist sport that was prejudice and since Tiger came to Golf so has many other minorities from all ethnicities. They should thank him for creating the next generation of Golfers. I could care less. I certainly would not want anyone to tell me what to do in my private time, as long as it was not killing anyone. He is a Man and that needs not explanation or clarification. America is just too self-righteous. The PGA would not give a flying fig is his wife was a woman of color. Tiger does not owe the PGA anything. Its a sport and he is the best at it. They put him on some teflon don pedestal and they feel he betrayed them. Give me a break, they need to take a look at their racist history when African-Americans were only allowed to serve them and even allowed to carry their golf bags.

TIGER, your apology was good enough for me!Forgive and forget...when lots of these folk responding, tip and dip get caught or let's call it what it is, commit adultery, they don't explain anything to anybody, even their own spouses. I am a Black African American but quite frankly I am so tired of saying people have to act this way or another. What about people just acting like human beings. Including making mistakes and learning from them. Wish you the best Tiger.

Elin Woods is not special, she just happen to be Tiger Woods type. White and pale just the way he likes his women. Did she actually think that she was going to get a perfect rich black man? She needs to stop acting like he's the worst husband on earth and start supporting him. He didnt't murder anyone and he didn't commit any crime. It could be a lot worst for her if her cheating husband was penniless like a lot of other men out there. I'm not saying what he did was the right thing to do because it isn't, but she has all his money to do whatever she needs to do so she needs to get over it. Elin Woods need to either forgive him or divorce him and not make the man suffer for as long as he is with her. I just wonder what would Tiger Woods do if she refuses to be a real wife after all this? A man with his sexual appetite shouldn't have gotten married until he had sowed all his wild oats. Elin Woods needs to earn some of tiger's money
