Get ready for the biggest sports story of the year: Tiger Woods will return to golf at the 2010 Masters tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club.
Woods said in a press release that his deep respect for the Masters, where Woods won his first major professional golf tournament in 1997, made it the natural place for him to end his self-imposed hiatus from the sport that has brought him worldwide acclaim.
Television ratings for the Masters will likely break all-time viewership records as public interest in all things Tiger has soared since the sex scandal that has turned his life into a public soap opera complete with sexy mistresses, a distressed wife, humiliation and a public looking for more details.
This will be Woods first golf competition, since he ran his SUV over a fire plug and in to a tree in November outside of his Orlando home. The accident triggered a sex scandal, exposing more than a dozen extramarital affairs the golfer had with women over the past several years.
Woods public apology was covered live by all four major television networks. And stories about the Woods affairs have captured headlines across the globe.
The 34-year-old golfer has said his major concern was to save his marriage with his wife, Elin, and be a better father to his two children.
Golf is the ultimate game of concentration, and it will be fascinating to see if Woods, who has been dubbed the greatest ever to play the game, will be able to put the many distractions aside to play well.
If Woods can somehow manage to win against the best golfers in the world after such a public scandal, Tiger's place in sports history will be cemented.

Tell me how, other then the fact that golfs best player is part of the competition, does the Masters benefit? You are obviously a casual golf fan and do not know very much about the Masters. You mentioned the Masters president in a previous post. Do you know who the Masters president is? It is Bobby Jones, who is the president of the Augusta National golf club. Bobby Jones, not Tiger is the greatest golfer of all time. Tiger can overcome him, but has not yet. Bobby Jones legacy will last forever in many ways and one big one is the Masters. He built the Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters, the greatest golf club in the world and the greatest sporting event in the world and won the real grand slam (all 4 majors in one season)which tiger will never do. All if these things will last forever, where so far only Tigers records will last forever.
I will try to hold on to my purity of the game, because it is disappearing very fast, the novices and those new to the game are killing it. Look at all other sports, noting but a show and a disgraceful show at that. The infusion of million into golf has no positive effect on anyone but big business. It has not helped make the playing of the game any better, only worse.
Your focus has been Tiger since Thanksgiving, but golf is played everyday since and my focus has been on my golf game not Tigers. Focusing on Tiger does not bring me pride like you and those on BV, I have pride in my God, my Country, my Family and myself, not in someones color. Golf does not need those who play because now a player looks like them. There have been players that looked like them in the past, they just weren't interested in finding out about them.
All the things you say Tiger brought to golf were always there, Tiger might have took some of them to the next level, but they were already there. Try to play good golf without focus and concentration, its not possible. Nicholas always had the fear factor.
I never said that the golf industry and the PGA tour is not better with Tiger, but to say they don't exist without him is crazy and an example of misplaced pride. Business is business, but the Masters is in another league they have put out a product that needs only true golfers and is the best sporting event on earth with or without Tiger. Tell me a sporting event that does zero advertisement and still sells out every year, only the Masters. Tiger is great and done a lot for the golf industry, but that is a drop to what the Masters has done for the real game of Golf. Tiger will never out do the Master in that regard. I agree the PGA tour need Tiger more then Tiger needs it, But Tiger needs the Masters much more then the Masters needs Tiger. He will never get the major record w/o the Masters, but the Masters will always be the best sporting event with or w/o him.

So longgggggggg OZZZZZZZZZ, realized you were talking about something you know nothing about and just decided to not reply. A very large trend here on BV. That is talking about things you don't know about and when your lack of knowledge is questioned you just stop posting. Then of course when your asked why there is no response, the answer is, for the poster and their other brothas and sistas, because your a racist, trailer, KKK, shinhead, paleface, white devil,toothless,pasty,etc,etc......And so continues the experience of dealing with black people, will it ever change?

blackbear72, I must have touched a nerve. LOL!!
Your quote: "because your a racist, trailer, KKK, shinhead, paleface, white devil,toothless,pasty,etc,etc......And so continues the experience of dealing with black people,"
What ?
You can't have a conservation, opinion vs opinion, without reducing yourself to calling people racist names and using racial slurs to get your point across?
I went to bed after my last post regarding this issue and the folowing day I did not see the thread on the front page of BV and I completely forgot all about it but since someone else replied to me about another topic I happened to run across your last rant.
And true to form and in a defeatist fashion, as somone who can't seem to hold his opinion in the road without getting sensitive, you resort to name-calling and based on a non reply by myself, you declared "victory".
WTF!! I'm just sittin' here laughung my ass off!!
And the nerve to use White racists rants (trailer, KKK, shinhead, paleface, white devil, toothless) in referencing a Black man!!!!
Once again, WTF? LOL!!!!!.....
You sir, are a piece of work!!!!
Your quote: "Bobby Jones, not Tiger is the greatest golfer of all time.....will go down the same way as baseball's "greatest of all time" Babe Ruth, in the era of a SEGREGRATED & SEPARATED sport, who was surpassed by both Hank Aaron & Barry Bonds but a certain geographic stills holds on to the Babe and denounces Aaron & Bonds because it sits well in the collective psyche and allows people to arguely hang on to.
So will be the case with Bobby Jones. Yes, he was probaly the FIRST great golfer in a then era controlled SEGREGRATED & SEPARATED sport, built the Augusta National Golf Club and the Masters under those same racist conditions, and is near and dear in the hearts of many but the real achievement in sports and true greatness, as you well know, is being able to control, be a dominent winner, winning championships and overall statistics (on a level and even plaing field) and in the end "hue colored" Tiger will own every one.
Your quote: "I will try to hold on to my purity of the game, because it is disappearing very fast, the novices and those new to the game are killing it. Look at all other sports, noting but a show and a disgraceful show at that. The infusion of million into golf has no positive effect on anyone but big business. It has not helped make the playing of the game any better, only worse".

Exactly how has novices and those new to the game are killing golf? What exacly is the problem? Different hues of color competing & winning in major multi-million dollar events or the infusion of those hues at your local golf course and local events?
Seems to me that you perfer the SAME * SIMILAIR approach to things in life but hey, this is America so no one's suprised, especially me but (unless you live under a rock) times have changed, my friend.
But that's ok. In the here now and beyond, and through no collective efforts on your behalf or anybody's elses with your attitude towards keeping it purely the same, the game of golf is changing.
It will be expensive, cost more money, it will generate more multi-racial dollars and the "purity" in golf's overall play & technique will remain the same but the "purity" that you seek to grasp and desperately hold on to and want to remain intact, will and has changed: a different shade in the people who play.
blackbear72, talk at ya later.......

You miss read my post. I did not call anyone a name, I said that is what I would be called for asking why I received no response, that is typical here. I ask why I get no response and the answer mostly from those I was not talking to is, "because I'm racist and toothless...... I did not in any regard call you a name. If that's how you read it I agree with your assessment of WTF.
I say Bobby Jones is the greatest ever based on his record, which as of now Tiger has not overcome. It was no control of Booby Jones that he played in a segregated era and is not the same as baseball. Since segregation baseball has had many great black players and golf has only had Calvin Peete and Tiger. No argument Hank Aaron is the greatest player of all time and that is in regards to his accomplishment as well as his class. Bond on the other hand cant be even be talked about because of the drug use, your agreement can be used in the reverse with him, since Babe Ruth did not have steroids available to him, it is not a fair comparison.
Let me inform you on the career of Bobby Jones. He was a life time amateur, who while competing in golf, attended college, worked as an attorney and raised a family (which he never cheated on). He was in essence a part time golfer. His part time golf career was from 1919 to 1930 during this time he competed in 30 major championships winning 13. In a 5 year span he won 10 of 16 majors he entered. In 1930 he won all 4 majors in the same year and at the age of 28 retired from competitive golf. Does that qualify as greatness? That sounds like total domination to me, even more so then Tiger has done the past few years. An even playing field would be if Tiger played golf part time and had an other professional career (like attorney) at the same time. Tiger still isn't on his accomplishment level and he has already played 9 more years then Bobby Jones.
The biggest thing novices have done is ruin the experiences on the golf course. The golfers Tiger has brought to the game have no sense of the games tradition. Funny thing is that Tiger does, but his new fan don't care to emulate him in the area. The only real thing these new golfer copy that Tiger does is his dress, They feel if they kinda look like Tiger and wear everything Nike they are just like him. I know this will be called racist, but the new black golfers do this the most, they look like Tiger until they start their swing. The new golfer do not play because they love the game, if that was the case they would have played before Tiger. They play to drink, get drunk, dress like Tiger and for every reason other then love for the game. And the biggest problem is pace of play. It is not the first time this has happened, Jack Nicolas was the first golfer to use a long preshot routine and walk of yardage. It has been studied and found out Jacks slow play caused play everywhere, on tour or at the local muni, to increase the time of a round of golf by 45 min. Jack had a lot of negative impacts on the game despite his great record. Tiger has done the same thing, not because of Tigers pace of play, but because these new golfer seem to believe they don't have to practice in order to play, again opposite of what Tiger does. Again especially with new black golfer, "I look like Tiger, so why do I have to practice". Tiger is not great because he is black, he is great because of his incredible work ethic.
Just because things have changed, it does not mean it is for the better. If purity means to strive to excels at what you do, know how to do something before you do it and not have thing given to you, then yes I would like it to stay the same. Your wrong about the technique of the game it is always changing and that is a good thing, but the traditions golf has should not. Look at how change has affected professional basketball, it has only changed for the worse. I don't mean since Bob Cousey, I mean since The good Doctor!
