Last year, Jeremy Tyler made headlines worldwide when he and his family decided that he would skip his senior year of high school to play pro basketball overseas. Tyler was one of the top high school prospects in the United States, but the 6'11" power forward grew impatient and went overseas and joined the Israeli basketball team, Maccabi Haifa, making a nice $140,000 his first season. Last year, New York Times sports writer Pete Thamel flew to Israel to hang out with Tyler and reported that things weren't going to well. According to those around him, Tyler was immature, distracted and couldn't get acclimated to the way of life in Israel, which all affected his on-court play. Now comes word that Tyler has left the team, with five weeks still left in the season, and returned to San Diego.
"Due to personal matters, Jeremy chose to leave the team on his own will on March 18 and return home to San Diego," Maccabi Haifa owner Jeffery Rosen said in a statement. "We wish Jeremy all the best."
Tyler only played in 10 games, averaging 2.1 points and 1.9 rebounds in 7.6 minutes a game. And according to ESPN, not even Tyler's agent knew what was going on.
"I'm as surprised as you are. We had no idea he was coming home," Makhtar Ndiaye of the Wasserman Media Group, told ESPN's Willie Weinbaum. "I'm speechless at this point and look forward to speaking with Jeremy. A contract, a learning process -- things weren't great -- but it was part of growing up. I'm disappointed and frustrated. The kid decided on his own. We did everything humanly possible to make it a success story for him and his family."
This seems like a good lesson in patience. Just finish high school, play a year of college, then go to the pros.

Too many kids are pressured by the adults in their lives to excel in sports as an avenue into college or an easy way out of poverty. The expectations are often too high with tragic results. Instead we need to encourage our kids to excel in academics and teach them knowledge is power. If this kid was as good as everyone thought or hoped what difference would one year make? I have a son who is currently a senior in high school who runs track and is a stand out in our area. He made the decision last week to quit the team due to the tremendous amount of pressure. Naturally it was a huge shock to everyone. I had coaches calling and asking what can we do to get him to change his mind. My son made the decision that track was not the most important thing in his life. It may have been more important to those around him because his potential was obvious and great. I am happy my son was mature enough to know his limits and make a tough decision in spite of the pressure. In his case he is fortunate to go on to college regardless of his athletic abilities. I value my son far more than anything he can do on a track and have confidence he can do even more in a college classroom. It is our responsibility as parents to provide guidance and teach our kids to have several talents versus being a one trick pony. If your child has an extraordinary talent rest assure it will be recognized without compromising or sacrificing their education. If this kid would have stayed in SCHOOL he would have known what a foolish decision he was making. His parents simply should have known better.

Another "learning" example for allof you young brothers that think character is developed by sports skills. Develop your person, be true to yourself, and definitely COMPLETE YOUR BASIC EDUCATION!

Doctors test three mental patients. The first one: "3 x 3 is equal to a few" patients: The "274"; doctors asked the second: "3 x 3" A: "Tuesday"; a doctor then asked the third patient answered: " 9. " Dr Chan said: "very good. How do you come from?" Patient A: "It is not simple, with 274 divided by Tuesday."
