In the week where he will find out his fate regarding his gun possession case, NBA star Gilbert Arenas is also dealing with the passing of his mother. According to the Washington Post, Arenas' mother, Mary Francis Robinson, died on March 13th, but he didn't find out until a few days later. The cause of death has yet to be announced and despite the estranged relationship between Arenas and his mother, whom he only met once, the baller is devastated and is putting up the money to pay for the funeral.

Robinson abandoned Arenas in a crack house, when he was 3 years old. He was raised by his father in Los Angeles. In an interview with Esquire Magazine recently, Arenas said that one of his childhood wishes was to meet his mother.

"When I was little, I looked in the mirror and held the Bible in my hand - that's how I talked to God," Arenas told Esquire. "I never just asked for stuff. The way I saw it, if you give Him something, you get something. So I said, I want to ask for two things. I want to see my mother. If you let me see her, I won't ask her any questions. The second was, If you get me to the NBA somehow, I'll never do drugs."

Arenas did meet his mother once while he played for the Golden State Warriors. According to a feature story in the Washington Post, he heard her calling his name while warming up for a game. After the game, she collapsed in his arms, crying, and gave him her number. He never called her but hoped that he'd be able to have some sort relationship with his mother after his NBA career.
