You would think that after Serena Williams' verbal beatdown of a line judge at last year's U.S. Open she'd get the cold shoulder from the folks passing out yearly awards. But after being awarded the prestigious Laureus World Sports Award for Sportswoman of the Year earlier this month, she's now being awarded the 2009 WTA Tour Player of the Year. Along with that award, Serena also won the Double Team of the Year award with her sister Venus."It's exciting because I don't think we've won the Doubles Team of the Year award before," Serena Williams told the Associated Press. "I won the daily double today and that was cool."
In 2009, Serena won the Australian Open and Wimbledon and was a semifinalist at the U.S. Open and a quarterfinalist at the French Open. With Venus, the sisters won the Australian Open, Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and the doubles title at Stanford.
