Caster Semenya Supporters: 'She's a Woman and She's Ready to Run'

Caster Semenya

It looks like South African runner Caster Semenya and her supporters won't be quiet until she's back on the track running. Semenya is still waiting for results from a gender test being handled by the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) to see if she's woman enough to compete against women in track. And while she's waiting, race organizers aren't letting her compete, and her peeps are pretty sick of it. Semenya's lawyers say they've had the results since February and she's been cleared to compete.

"Caster's medical team has looked at the results from Berlin and South Africa," Benedict Phiri, of the Dewey and Leboeuf law firm told the eNews Channel, according to the Associated Press. "And have also conducted their own tests and there was a point in time, I think mid-February, where we got the go-ahead to say we've looked at everything now and based on what we've seen, we believe Caster is entitled to participate in female athletics competitions."

"The fact that she was prohibited or prevented from competing in Stellenbosch was a big frustration to her," Phiri continued, "because as far as she's concerned and as far as everyone around her is concerned, there really is nothing that is stopping her from participating in female athletics competitions."

Semenya hopes to compete in June when the IAAF should be done evaluating the results of the gender test.
