Tiger Woods Reportedly Getting Close to Divorce

There's a lot of buzz right now about the very real fact that Tiger Woods' marriage may be coming to an end.

It's been stated in a variety of media outlets that the final straw for Elin Nordegren was the Nike ad featuring Tiger with his late father's voice in the background. The ad uses pre-recorded audio from a conversation that Earl Woods had with Tiger's mother.

"Elin was violently angry over this commercial and thought it was a cheesy thing to do," one friend told People. "[Elin] wouldn't have gone near the Masters under any condition, but that just made her madder," the friend told the magazine. "She is over Tiger. I wouldn't be surprised if she files for divorce sometime soon."

Tiger's wife has been an enigma for the media, which has done all it can to figure out her next move. The strongest move to date was the fact that she chose not to appear with Tiger at the Masters tournament this weekend, where he placed fourth overall. Media speculated that Elin did not want Woods to play in the Masters, since she felt that his return to golf was too soon for them to have properly worked out their problems.

The truth is that Elin didn't have a chance to gain complete control of Tiger's heart, and that's just a simple fact. Tiger married the game of golf 33 years ago, and that divorce may never happen. I felt bad for Elin when she went through her traumatic experience with Tiger, since no one wants to find out that their spouse is being so irresponsible with his body.

What's even worse is that Tiger has shown his famous capacity for massive insensitivity by turning his back on Elin and returning to the game he loves. What's completely clear is that Tiger should have never gotten married in the first place. While some might feel sympathy for what Elin went through, she likely knew what she was dealing with from the beginning (or should have taken the time to find out). Additionally, millions of Americans go through the pain of divorce every year, and most of them don't have $100 million to make themselves feel better.

Perhaps it's best that they both cut their losses. This will probably not get any better. This experience also serves as an interesting lesson for the women out there who dream of marrying a professional athlete. All that glitters may not be gold.
