New Miami Dolphin Brandon Marshall Says He's Changed His Ways

Brandon MarshallIf you haven't been keeping up, NFL wide receiver Brandon Marshall is one of those players who is incredible on the field but a bit wreckless off. The Denver Broncos traded Marshall to the Miami Dolphins for two draft picks this week, and Miami immediately signed him to an additional four-year contract that will have him making close to $50 million in the next five years. The potential salary could make him the highest paid wide receiver in NFL history – if he's keeps his act clean. In a press conference last week, Marshall said the days of immaturity and off-the-field antics are gone.
"Early on, I made my mistakes and worked through those things," Marshall said. "I continue to look myself in the mirror and try to better myself. I'm excited about my future. The past is the past."
Marshall was married earlier this year and gives credit to his wife for helping him keep his head on straight. He said he's learned from his mistakes.
"To be more patient, to think things through," he said. "And the biggest thing is to be more of a professional on the field and off the field. Having that spotlight on you at all times, you have to make the right decisions and say the right things. That's something I've learned. This comes with a lot of responsibility."

With his past behind him, Marshall's main goal is to contribute to the team and make a difference. Although he's one of the top receivers in the game, he says Dolphins GM Bill Parcells has nothing to worry about:
"This may shock you guys, but I'm no prima donna," he said. "I like to get dirty. I'll hit the D-end, or crack back on the linebacker. Mr. Parcells is the type of guy where if you bust your butt and do your job, you'll get along just fine with him. My goal is to be No. 1. Am I that now? No. But with work and dedication, I'll get there. Hopefully, it will be this year. I want to be the best receiver to play this game."
