With the passing of Arizona's immigration law, everyone in the nation has something to say about it. The new law allows law enforcement officials to ask suspected illegal immigrants for proof of U.S. citizenship or alien residency. The suspected illegal immigrants can be held until they prove they're in the country legally or face deportation. President Barack Obama called the law misguided and now the hometown basketball team is making a statement.
During tonight's game against the San Antonio Spurs, the Phoenix Suns will don "Los Suns" jerseys to honor their Latino fan base. Suns owner Robert Sarver told the Associated Press the decision was made "to honor our Latino community and the diversity of our league, the state of Arizona and our nation."
Sarver sought approval of wearing the jerseys from the team and the NBA and everyone was on board.

"However intended, the result of passing the law is that our basic principles of equal rights and protection under the law are being called into question," Sarver said, "and Arizona's already struggling economy will suffer even further setbacks at a time when the state can ill-afford them."
"I think it's fantastic," Suns point guard Steve Nash said about wearing the jerseys. "I think the law is very misguided. I think it's, unfortunately, to the detriment of our society and our civil liberties. I think it's very important for us to stand up for things we believe in. As a team and as an organization, we have a lot of love and support for all of our fans. The league is very multicultural. We have players from all over the world, and our Latino community here is very strong and important to us."

Activists have also been pressuring Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig to move next year's MLB All-Star Game out of Phoenix. He has yet to respond. The NBA has definitely made their stance known with the Suns making the first statement.
"It's going to be great to wear Los Suns," Phoenix center Amare Stoudemire said, "to let the Latin community know that we're behind them 100 percent."
