Even though Phoenix Suns dominant big man Amar'e Stoudemire should be concentrating solely on winning the playoffs, he now has other matters to contend with: his mom. Reports have surfaced that Carrie Mae Stoudemire got cuffed by police last Saturday for allegedly driving erratically and other driving-related charges.
The 6'10" power forward's mom has certainly had her bouts with alcohol in the past. Carrie Mae is also no stranger to the inside of a jail cell, having been arrested quite a number of times throughout Stoudemire's upbringing for charges that range from prostitution to drug possession.
Scottsdale, Ariz., police spotted the 54-year-old woman in a late model Lincoln Navigator straddling two lanes and going about 60 mph. When stopped by local authorities, and after examining her driver's license, an officer asked Carrie Mae why she did not have an ignition interlock device on her vehicle. In response, she stated that she didn't know she needed to have the device on all of her vehicles. Carrie Mae then went on to tell the officer that the SUV was, in fact, a rental.
Investigators noticed that the woman's eyes were glassy and watery. Carrie Mae told police that, coincidentally, she was on her way to an alcohol education class.
When the officers requested that Carrie Mae take a sobriety test, she flatly refused and that's when they whipped out the cuffs and placed the woman in the back of the patrol car.
Moments later, Amar'e and another man arrived at the scene in a Bentley convertible. Now belligerent, Carrie Mae began yelling out her son's name and demanded that he get her a lawyer pronto. Officers asked Amar'e to leave because his presence caused her to act out more.
Carrie Mae was booked in to the Scottsdale jail and later released. According to police records, she is charged with speeding, operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device and failing to drive in a single lane.

Go get help, and stop embarrasing yourself and your kid(s). Stop being so selfish. It's not all about you.

I'm with the mom on this, what the hell is a interlock? I have a truck also.If anyone know what a ignition interlock is please explain it to me, also i'm just thinking, if she had a ignition interlock would they not had arrested her or that was their intentions from jump street. My reasoning is that was their plans from the beginning to arrest her for drinking the why the hell bring up ignition interlock? probably to add on a petty charge with the serious dwi charge plus it's not proven that she was drunk past the point you can be charge with so the whole think can be bogus because they knew that her son was famous basketball player.

if you were not such a mamas boy or had any intellingence you would know that an interlock is a device installed on a vehicle if your a drunk or a tube you blow into to check sobriety in order to be able to start it.

Hmm well "Leonard", I am neither a "Mama's boy" (I am a very independant woman) nor am I unintelligent, and I had never heard of a vehicle interlocking device. My assumption is that many other people who have never had issues of being drunk while driving, or the necessicity to prove their sobriety have heard of them either. I drive an SUV and mine certainly didn't come with a vehicle interlocking device.

It's just a device for people who have more then one DUI. So they won't drive drunk and hurt somebody

Firstly, I'm prompted to side with many on the issue of sobriety behind the wheel. However, it should be noted that we as a society has never moved away from the public "witch hunt" mentatlity!
Carrie is a woman and an adult, and should have done well to fend for herself. Had she not been the mother of Mr. Stoudemire, this would not have made mention or given news credence in the first place. But for the reading public, this is news?Secondly, driving a rental car without an "ignition interlock" is not a crime that the driving public should be responsible for, but regulated and reinforced by the Rental car companies.
Thirdly, since when is my past ever so readily available to the public? In the event that a bank was robbed in the nearby neighborhood, should not the area be canvassed appropriately, or should everyone accused of robbery in the past be questioned before the actual robbers brought to justice. Oftentimes information in itself can be so critical that it taints our judgement before we get the facts which is far more important! Because "Carrie" had no knowledge of the ignition interlock device, was that the proper time to order to take a sobriety test? How many drinks have you had tonight should have been the proper question? Nevertheless, another black woman with a questionable past is brought to justice. Driving under influence is bad enough, but now we add disorderly, improper actions. She has her issues, like we all do. But when is it our business to cast conviction on anyone before allowing justice to be served and scrutinized just like the common public? Think how many issues do we have that are not under a microscope? In the event the microscope finds your issues, would you be as vigilante to have them exposed? We are all humans and to err is to be human!

Hah okay so this one person speaks for all of the black women, smitty? And yes, there are more out there like this, but it's NOT every one of them. That goes for all races, if you're going to put it so closed-mindedly. In fact, I don't see wtf this has to do with the story...
Anyway, I just hope Amar'e doesn't trip on this incident too much, especially on the court! PHX For West (yes, I still have hope)!
