Kevin P. Chavous: College Readiness Is More Than Academics
If you've been watching the French Open, you may have noticed the lace tennis dress that Venus Williams has been sporting.Actually, it seems that's all people have been noticing this week. Some critics thought that Venus' outfit was disrespectful to the game, and it got even worse when the dress went up and revealed her flesh-colored shorts; many people thought she wasn't wearing any underwear.
"It's really all about the illusion," Williams told reporters after her first couple of matches. "What's the point of wearing lace when there's just black under? The illusion of just having bare skin is definitely, for me, a lot more beautiful."
But that didn't stop people from talking about her gear more so than her performance on the court. And because of that, Venus, who didn't drop a set while wearing the lace gear, announced that after the French Open, the outfits are staying in the closet.
"As great as the design is, I really want the focus to be on the tennis," said Williams after her last match on Friday.
Both Venus and Serena are still winning matches throughout the tournament and are usual favorites to win the French Open.

If you ever have a child that will still look like the real you and wo ever. Showing your ass is not the answer. Do you know how many black women have a big ass and pretty face? If this is your idea of getting attention, your sick. Black is beautiful, but, not your way. Wake up Miss Williams. A big ass cannot (keep) a man.
You look like hell. I have A big ass, and A very pretty face. I do not want attention focus on my bum. Some man is going to break your heart.

I am glad that Venus has exercised good judgement and decided to stop wearing the lace outfit. She is a beautiful young woman and does not need to cheapen herself in such an inapporpriate outfit.

I thought it was completely distasteful of her to wear, what it appears to look like, lingerie on the tennis court. It's not cute by no means. She could have designed something else if her goal was to make tennis attire more fashionable. Everything is all about sex (and money and material things) and it's getting to be really sickening.

Personally they both need to tone down there attire to much jewerly and etc.They are very good tennis players as we all know, but they look uncomfortable.and they should find someone who can do a better weave job on there hair!!!!!!!!!!!1

How hard is it to just wear some atheletic clothes? Why try to look sexy on the court? I'm glad she's getting rid of that lingerie (and she wants the attention to be focused on tennis which it should be), it is not professional. Remember Althea Gibson who paved the way for you and your sister. Wearing that outfit is like "slapping" Althea in the face. It's just like these bad, disrespectful black kids who also drop out of school, it's like "slapping" the ones who paved the way for them in the face.

There is a huge difference between style and trashy. I do not understand why woman dressing and acting like prostitutes have become so acceptable. The devil must be close to showing himself.
