Michael Jordan and video games have always had a peculiar relationship. For years, Jordan felt that any video game featuring his likeness had to star him and only him. Which is why he usually would allow video game companies to license his name or image for simulation basketball games such as '
NBA 2K' and '
NBA Live.' Although some video games, like '
Michael Jordan: Chaos in the Windy City' for
Super Nintendo and '
Jordan vs. Bird: One on One' for
Nintendo, were allowed to have some Jordan time on there, the annual games did not.
It seems like Jordan is having a change of heart, though. Now that he's majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, he may want to get his name and team out in the public a bit more. Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2k Sports, confirmed to CNBC that Jordan will be on the cover of 'NBA 2K11,' as well as be a featured player in the game.
"We've made a lot of progress over the past 10 years, but we know we have the best NBA video game ever made here," Argent said. "So we thought to ourselves how can we embody that? Ad there was only one person on that list who we wanted to have, and that was Michael Jordan. Actually getting this done is the most ridiculous win of all time."
Argent didn't get specific on what role Jordan's "character" will play in the game, but he did say that fans should be prepared for some surprises. Jordan seems equally excited himself about being part of the 'NBA 2K' series, which in the last decade or so, surpassed EA's 'NBA Live' series as the better basketball simulation game.
"It's an honor to be featured on the cover of 'NBA 2K11,'" Jordan said, in a statement. "I have no doubt that 'NBA 2K11' will be a big hit with gamers and basketball fans alike. I'm looking forward to getting back out on the court, virtually."

This will be great for gamers and a great business move for Jordan as he continues to expand the brand of the Bobcats. I think that he should be careful no to over expose himself or the team.
