Michael Vick a No-Show for Party, Promoter Out $20K

Just the announcement of Michael Vick hosting a party at Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino in Hallandale Beach, Fla., brought out the haters. Unfortunately for those haters, though, Michael Vick was a no-show.

According to the Sun Sentinel, Vick was slated to host a Memorial Day weekend party at the casino, but didn't show up. About 1,500 people showed up, and the promoter invested more than $20,000 toward the event, including paying Vick half of his $10,000 fee upfront.

"I don't know what to do," party promoter Darnell Aponte told the Sun Sentinel. "This was my first full-blown event. For me to lose $20,000 hurts. This is like near catastrophic."
Aponte invested in radio, handout and Internet ads and travel accommodations for Vick and his crew, but according to Vick's booking agent, Fred Grant, Vick's flight was delayed, which made him miss a connecting flight and he wasn't able to make it to the party.

"We did everything we could to get him there," Grant said. "We're not trying to be shady or stiff anybody."

Vick was supposed to be at the party at 1 a.m., and when he didn't show up, Aponte reached him by phone.

"He wasn't apologetic at all," Aponte said. "He had a really poor attitude: 'I missed my flight, what the heck do you want me to do about it?'"
There was still a flight for Vick to catch to Florida, but he didn't take it. Aponte is looking at that as a breach of contract and could possibly look to recoup the money he lost. Outside of the party, there were dozens of protesters who are still mad about Vick's dogfighting past, hoping to get his attention.

Vick's booking agent still wants to honor the contract, even though it'll be tough to get people excited about Vick hosting a party again.

"If we cannot reschedule Michael Vick, then we refund the money," Grant said. "We're willing to do everything we can to make it right."
