Charles Barkley Still Wants to Be a GM At the end of the 2008–09 NBA season, NBA Hall of Famer and TNT/NBA TV basketball analyst Charles Barkley said he was willing to try the NBA general manager thing. Of course, no one called him because he was still behind the analyst desk for the 2009-10 season, but now that the NBA season is nearing its end, Barkley's putting the call out there ... once again.

"I'm ready to get in to management,'' he told the Boston Globe. "But it's going to have to be a great situation. I'm not going to give up a great situation for a bad situation. I got a great situation here, but I'm ready to be a GM. It's just time for that, but like I said, it's going to have to be under my own terms and I am going to have to have complete control. I ain't going to work for somebody else if I am going to get the blame.''

Of course, Barkley, who is finishing up his 10-year stint with TNT, said he isn't going to go around begging for a job. He feels like owners and potential employers need to just look at his resume and his reputation, adding that some teams have hired worse guys than him.


"It would have to be an organization that I trust that is trying to win,'' he said. "The biggest misconception about sports is that all these teams are trying to win. Some of these teams are just trying to make money, across the board in all sports. I want to be in a situation where I can be successful because, like I said, I got a great situation here.''
