LOS ANGELES - Purple and gold confetti raining down upon him, Kobe Bryant hopped up on the scorer's table, shook his fists and extended five fingers.
When he hopped down, Boston's legendary Hall of Fame center Bill Russell was waiting to shake his hand.
A Game 7 classic -- and this time, it finally went the Lakers' way.
Beating Boston for the first time in a Game 7, the Lakers came up champions again after trailing in the last quarter of the last game of their season.
Kobe Bryant, the finals MVP, scored 23 points despite 6-of-24 shooting and the Lakers won their 16th NBA championship Thursday night, dramatically rallying from a fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Boston Celtics 83-79 in Game 7 of the NBA finals.
Bryant earned his fifth title with the Lakers, who repeated as NBA champions for the first time since winning three straight from 2000-02.
"This one is by far the sweetest, because it's them," Bryant said. "This was the hardest one by far."
"I wanted it so bad, and sometimes when you want it so bad, it slips away from you. My guys picked me up."

Congrats to the LA Lakers!
Boston played great defense, controlled the entire game, could not make shots down the stretch, lost the rebound battle on both ends and just ran out of gas in the the final minutes of the fourth quarter.
Age and tired legs caught up with them and the Lakers wanted it more.
Question for all you LeBron fans: Who's the best player in the NBA and argubly top 3 all-time?
Kobe? 5 NBA championships (two back to back) and two finals MVP's
LeBron? Media hype and a series of ESPN dunk highlights.
Kobe is only 31 years old (will pass "Air" Jordan's 6 NBA titles) and until Kobe retires, LeBron James will not win a championship since he will have to beat Kobe and he can only dream........and he better stay in Cleveland in order to have a chance!!!!!

FUCK KOBE AND THE CHEATIN ASS REFEREES, CLEARY THE OFFICIALS CHEATED THEY WERE CALLING BOGUS FOUL CALLS ON THE CELTICS. IT'S NOT ABOUT BEING A SOUR LOSER I BELIEVE THE GAME WAS NOT PLAYED FAIRLY AND THE NBA SHOWS FAVORTISM WITH CERTAIN PLAYERS MAINLY (KOBE). DON'T GET ME WRONG KOBE BITCH ASS IS NASTY ON THE COURT BUT I CAN'T TAKE THE COCKY NESS AND OH DON'T CALL A FOUL ON KOBE NOT MR. PERFECT BALLPLAYER. I don't think the ref's cheated however I do agree with you on Kobe. The white-girl chasing, snitch-made, rapist he is. Yes him getting away with the rape made his arrogance more profound. And people call him "great" in what, 1st he was 6 of 24 shooting, he made most of his points from being "blown on" (Foul! he touched the white gurl-Uncle Ruckus Boondocks). I wish Boston had won (the Black team) but they gave the game away in clutch time. Oh yeah another sorry player is KG -the BIG expired ticket. 7 feet of what getting dunked on and blocked? LBJ will win a title when he gets a Wade or sidekick like Jordan had a Pippen.
