Serena Williams Looks to Defend Wimbledon Title, Wins First MatchEarlier this month, Serena Williams was busy shaking off her ousting at the French Open. She lost to Samantha Stosur in the quarterfinals, and despite getting the doubles title with sister Venus, it left a bad taste in her mouth.

She's now looking to redeem herself in this week's Wimbledon tournament with the hopes of winning her second straight. She won in 2009 after defeating Venus.

"I approach every match the same, really, whether I'm here or at a tournament in North or South Carolina," Serena told the L.A. Times. "I just kind of look at it all the same. You do the best you can and try just to go for it. Wimbledon is cool, though. It's a good feeling to be among so many champions. I really do enjoy the atmosphere."

Serena is definitely not shy about enjoying her life off the tennis court. She's often criticized for not taking her craft more seriously. Just the other night, she went to a Green Day concert and was called out for not having her mind on the game, but she still looks on the bright side of it:

"I got some cardio in," she said. "I was jumping around a little bit. It was amazing. Everyone knows I'm a massive Green Day fan. They were so close. No chance I could have missed it. [But] we're here to work. We're here to do our best, and hopefully that means taking home a title or two."

Serena already went to work on Tuesday, defeating Michelle Larcher de Brito (6-0, 6-4), in a match that lasted just 63 minutes. Williams is the No. 1 seed in this year's tournament, so the early matches should be easy.
