Police Question Vick on Birthday Shooting

The NFL's poster boy for trouble, Michael Vick, was hosting his 30th birthday party at a Virginia Beach Club last Friday when a man was reportedly shot outside in the wee hours of the morning.

Quanis Phillips, who was one of the co-defendants during Vick's infamous 2007 dogfighting case, did not sustain life-threatening injuries. He was treated at a local hospital, then released later Friday afternoon.

Vick, who was accompanied by his lawyer, Larry Woodward, was questioned by the Virginia Beach Police but is not a suspect. Police have made no arrests in the case.

Since Friday, Woodward has maintained that his client was not involved nor present when the shooting took place. Instead, the lawyer claims that Vick left the party at least 10 to 20 minutes before the 2 a.m. shooting occurred.

Reportedly, a fight broke out before the shooting incident. Witnesses and the victim were not forthcoming with any information at the time of the incident, according to police reports. Now, investigators have found witnesses who have provided them with pertinent facts.

They described the gunman as a black man wearing a white tank top and driving a white Cadillac Escalade.

Vick, who is currently on probation, said he did not invite Phillips to his gathering nor did he associate with him once inside the venue.

The Eagles, on the other hand, have said they are in a "wait-and-see" mode:

"We are aware of the incident that occurred in Virginia and are in the process of gathering all of the facts,'' the team said in a statement. "Until then, we will not have any comment on this matter."

The NFL is also investigating the shooting with regard to Vick's involvement. When Vick was reinstated to the NFL after being suspended for two years, Commissioner Roger Goodell said his margin for error would be "extremely limited."

The NFL will not be taking any immediate action against Vick until more facts are known, said spokesman Greg Aiello.
