Cedric Benson, the talented yet troubled player for the Cincinnati Bengals, may need to get a reality check. Benson was arrested this week and charged with a misdemeanor for allegedly punching out a bar employee last month. He was booked at the Travis County jail, in Texas.
According to police, Benson was at a bar in Austin and got into a fight. Staff at the bar intervened and Benson was asked to leave. Witnesses said that Benson was verbally abusive toward the staff as they escorted him to the door.
Once outside, Benson claimed that "all these white boys are ganging up on me and kicking me out." He then punched a bar employee in the face. Benson's attorney, Sam Bassett, said that Cedric "looks forward to telling his side of the story at the appropriate time."
"Though he does not entirely agree with the version of facts recited in the court filings," Bassett said, "he does not wish to make his comments public at this time."
"Mr. Benson has always been willing to cooperate with the Austin Police Department to tell his version of what happened so long as he could have a lawyer present," he said. "The Austin Police Department decided to go forward with obtaining a warrant without obtaining Mr. Benson's side of the story."
The problem with Cedric Benson is that he is known for getting into trouble with the law. In 2008, he was arrested twice in the same month for alcohol charges. The charges were dropped, however. He was also suspended for a game and pleaded no contest while at The University of Texas on charges that related to criminal trespassing after he broke into an apartment to get a TV he says someone took from him.
The last thing we need to hear about is yet another NFL player in a drunken brawl at a bar in the middle of the night. Fellow Texas "alum" (not sure if either of these guys actually graduated) Vince Young was arrested not too long ago for a similar incident. Apparently, the University of Texas, which is not known for educating black athletes as much as they are for getting them on the field, has an issue of producing men who've learned to dribble, throw and catch, but not to conduct themselves like intelligent adults.
Programs like The University of Texas bother me to no end, since I see one black man after another enter their football program, leave with no degree and end up with lives of self-destruction. Benson is just the latest trend in this program's historical pattern. What's worse is that Texas isn't the only one, since this happens all over the NCAA.

Is this a surprise to anyone-really? The Bengals are my team but they always give blacks more chances to redeem themselves than any other national felons league teams, they want to win too! Thus they hold the record for most arrested players. I find it quite amusing that after the career is over and they blew all the money on their self, some want to go back and sue the college they were found at because they have a degree but are stupid as a bag of rocks! You should have kept up your support payments instead of getting a quater of a mill. behind, sorry about your luck! Your agent knew as did you it was about money then it still is about money, too bad you got a fourth grade mentality. The corner is still there where you once slang da crack-GO DERE!!
