In an open letter about the signing, Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert calls LeBron James' move "a shocking act of disloyalty." He even goes further to say that LeBron's decision to move to Miami was "the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn."
Gilbert, give me a break. Are you a businessman who understands how this all works, or are you a whining three-year old who gets angry because he doesn't get his own way? The truth is that LeBron had to make a business decision, and you are showing your own immaturity and lack of loyalty by bashing a guy who gave you seven years of his life. He should never have been in your city in the first place, since we all knew that LeBron's talent has always been meant for a bigger stage. In fact, LeBron gave up at least $100 million dollars in endorsement deals by staying in the city of Cleveland.
By publicly attacking a player for going to another team, Gilbert has tarnished the image of the Cavaliers organization in the eyes of any other big name free agent who might consider going to Cleveland. Already a weak basketball market to begin with, Gilbert's move is confirmation of Chris Bosh's claim that he would play with LeBron almost anywhere EXCEPT the city of Cleveland. This was a bad move for his organization, and he reduced the value of his team by several million dollars when he responded to James' decision with such a serious lack of class. A good team owner would have thanked LeBron for several great years, and wished him the best in the future.
I also have some other questions for Dan Gilbert about the LeBron James move:
1) Are you also going to be equally cowardly when the collective bargaining agreement is negotiated and you align yourself with other team owners to keep player salaries restricted? LeBron gave up millions of dollars to leave Cleveland, due to market salary restrictions in the NBA. Perhaps if you were to take a stand to make sure LeBron could get the salary he deserves in a fair and free market, he might not be so quick to leave your team. Oh, but LeBron understands why you would vote to restrict player salaries: It's not a cowardly move to him, it's just business.
2) Would you have been loyal to LeBron had he been injured for each of the past seven years and not been able to do his job? No. You would have cut him the first chance you could get. That's what team owners do, and you would have done the same. I imagine that all the loyalty you expect LeBron to show you would not be reciprocated if LeBron, like your organization, had been unable to meet the expectations of your mutual objective of winning a title.
3) Your remarks were clearly meant to make a kind young man feel even worse about a very difficult decision. LeBron James is not a diva. He's not a man who demanded trades, got into fights at night clubs or bashed his coaches on television. He was a hard-working Ohio native who did everything in his power to bring things to Cleveland that the city had never seen. At the end of the day, he has my respect, and he deserves yours too. The city of Cleveland may have gotten a bigger piece of LeBron James than any other city in America, so burning his jersey and cursing his name reminds him that you never had his best interest at heart. For the sake of your own decency (and I say this to anyone who is disappointed with LeBron's decision), thank him for the great years and realize that, like many relationships we experience in life, all good things must come to an end. How you respond when a love affair is broken is a revelation of who you are as a human being.
I am not sure if Dan Gilbert can get anyone to sign with the Cavs, now that he's shown that hard-working players are going to be called cowards if they choose to play for another team. Also, the idea that LeBron James, a man who has done nothing more than give 100 percent of his energy over nearly 600 games played for the Cavs, is a bad role model for children is simply ridiculous. Bad role models are the ones who bash their so-called friends in public. Dan Gilbert is not the kind of man I'd want my children to emulate.

yeah this was a bad move by Mr. Gilbert
But lets not make Lebron into some kind of saint either. The cavs catered to labrons every whim, even allowing his homeys on flights to games.Everything was about him.
Also the cavs, did everything they could to build a winner around him, and it was labron that folded like a tent in game 5 or 6.
It was Labron that turned this into a ego show. All about him, although he has won nothing, zip, nada.
Still this does not excuse Gilbert. To me they both could have played this alot better. Gilbert could have been a mature businessman, and Labron could have less egotistical, and less of a diva.
When he doesnt win next year, and he's not. Everybody will have right to jump on him, becuase of the ciruce he created in 2010.

Another thing
the more i think about the more Im left to conclude James handled this all wrong. Now Im talking about the fans of Cleveland.
Did they really deserve this national humilation?
The whole country is either laughing at clevleand or feeling bad for them. What did they do but support james every since high school?
To me its not about the decision, but how he handled it. Gilbert spoiled James, and james dumped him. But he also dumped that city, and they were loyal.
james deserves nothing but criticism for not what he did but "how he did it". What he did equates to going on national TV and saying although my wife his been loyal, caring and supportive, Im going to leave her for the hot chick in south beach.
He couldve been up front along time ago, he couldve have been honest with them. Instead he let his wife (cleveland) know at the same time as the rest of the nation, he was living her.
Guys thats not right!

FIRST OFF, I DONT NEED TO STATE THE FACTS WHEN THE BANNERS ARE ALREADY HANGING OVER HERE! LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT, YOU GUYS ARE UPSET MY GENERATION IS RISING?!?!? AFRAID OF PURE COMPETITION? TELL YOUR HOMETOWN TEAM TO STEP THEIR GAME UP!!!!!!! THE FACT OF THE MATTER REMAINS...THE NBA NEEDS MORE COMPETITION AND WHEN SUPERSTARS FORM A WAY TO BETTER MARKET THE NBA AND PERHAPS THROW UP SOME BANNERS WHILE DOING SO, WE SHOULD SUPPORT THOSE BOLD MOVES. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, THE CELTICS NOR THE LAKERS WILL BE AFRAID TO STEP IN MIAMI OR ORLANDOS HOUSE AND DOMINATE! WE CAN NOT CONTINUE TO SHUN RIVALRY OR INCREASED LEVELS OF OPPOSITION GIVEN THIS TIME FRAME WITHIN A NEW ERA OF STRATIFICATIONAL POLICIES. MORE PLAYERS SHOULD FORM ALLIANCES(WHILE TAKING ETHICAL PAY CUTS) AS "BIG THREES" OR " FAB FIVEZ" AND CHALLENGE EACH OTHER SO THE YOUTH CAN SEE WHY TEAMWORK PUTS UP BANNERS AND EARNS YOU "WELL ROUNDED RESPECT" INSTEAD OF PLAIN OLD RESPECT HALF THE ELITE MEANS OF PRODUCTION PRETENDS TO EXIST, WHEREAS, IT IS A WELL KNOWN ILLUSION, HENCE THE RECESSION ID CALL A GENERATIONAL INFLATION REFLECTING DEPRESSION SINCE FY2007. ANYWAYZ, JORDAN HAS ALREADY DONE WHAT HE'Z DONE, CLEARLY, NOW THAT KOBE HAS FIVE RINGS,AND,... WE ALL WITNESSED HIM DROP 81,(COUGH) ON TORONTO, DONT BE SHOCKED IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I COMMIT TO HIM BEING THE BEST ALIVE AND NEARLY OF ALL TIME! LET THESE TEAMS FORM CONGLOMERACIES AND IMPERIALISTIC DYNASTIES, THE NBA IS ONLY IMPROVING, I.E., THE IMPROVEMENT ALREADY IN MOTION WITHIN THE EASTERN CONFERENCE...SUP WEST COAST, YOU SHOOK?. I WILL NOW GUARENTEE MY CELTICS TAKING MIAMI TO THE CONFERENCE FINALS DUE TO THE INJURY PRONE HEAT...IF YOU WANT TO "ATTACK" THE HEAT USE ETHICAL CRITICISM, THE MIAMI HEAT HAVE A HIGHLY PROBABLE INJURY RATE AT THIS POINT AND TIME AND SHOULD ENSURE THEIR BENCH CAN BACK THEM UP. THEY ARE STILL MISSING THOSE PERFECT PIECES NECESSARY TO CONQUER THE EAST COAST...THE CASE AND POINT IS TO STOP BEING CRITICAL TOWARD LEBRON JAMES FOR CREATING PURE COMPETITION IN AN ALMOST GLOBAL PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION....ALL OF YOU SHOULD READ "40 MILLION DOLLAR SLAVES" BY WILLIAM C. RHODEN AND THINK ABOUT WHERE SPORTS SOCIETY HAS COME FROM AND WHAT IT IS RISING TO, ONCE MORE...BOSTON HAS BEEN TITLE TOWN SINCE THE 60'Z AND ASK PAUL PIERCE "WHATS REALLY GOOD?" OUT HERE...WE EXPECT NOTHING LESS THAN A BANNER AND THE PATRIOTS WILL BE RIGHT BACK! SUP DOLPHINS?!!?!?!? YOU AFRAID OF PURE COMPETITION TOO? BASKETBALL JUST MORPHED BACK TO THE EIGHTIES AND YOU ALL RAN FOR THE HILLZ JUST NOW....STEP YOUR GAME UP!!!!!IM WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO ACTUALLY DEFEND RAJON RONDOZ NOTORIOUS YET CAPTIVATING UPFAKE, AS STRATEGIC AS IT IS...HATERZZZZZZZZZ

Amen. How quickly the city of Cleveland has forgotten this young man's contributions. Maybe Mr. Gilbert could donate that $30 mill LaBron left on the table to the economy of Cleveland.

@blackbear72- Why are you concerned with this mans personal life? No, he has not married his kids mother but they do live together and if she doesn't have a problem with it then why should you? You act like you're his baby]s mama. Married or not, he takes care of his family. There are SEVERAL men out here that are not with their kids mothers or are not married to them and they don't take care of their kids on top of that! If thats your only stone to throw, hold on to it until you have enough worth throwing.

The writer talked about being a role model, i stated he is a very poor role model, becasue he has not married the mother of his children. It shows how low standards have become, that this is not even an issue anymore. Your standard seems to be that of the several men that are not with their kids, not a very high standard.
Married to the mother of your children use to be a given, now it is "going above and beyond", especially here on BV. He is no more then a child, a man would be married. If he did not have his basketball talent, he would be homeless.
