I never expected to see Tiger take such a tumble. In fact, I was sure that once he got back on the golf course, everything would be just fine. It turns out that Tiger's return to golf has been less than memorable, and we're all being served with the opportunity to watch him slowly drop off to something he hasn't been since he was 21 years old: full of potential but highly inconsistent.
While Tiger is still a very good golfer, this is not going to help him sell products. The ability to sell products is largely based on your public image and how much America likes you. For example, in the Olympics, there are many occasions when the silver medalist gets more endorsements than the gold medalist, since the decisions on Madison Avenue can be based on looks, personality and charisma.
Tiger has lost a great deal of ground when it comes to being identified as a disciplined and ultimately "good" human being. Even if he were still a great golfer, his Wii sales would have declined substantially, since being great doesn't matter if soccer moms don't like you. Those who purchase the Wii are not hardcore video game fanatics, and they not hypercompetitive relative to those who might purchase an Xbox or Playstation 3. So, the image of Tiger as the anti-family man is certainly going to keep his Wii games on the shelf.
The sole redeeming aspect of the life of Tiger Woods is that it appears he has been financially responsible during his career. He's not some ignorant prize fighter who goes on million-dollar shopping sprees or a rapper who feels that he needs to have 10 Bentleys to maintain his public image. He's a guy with a few hundred million dollars in the bank, so he's ultimately going to be just fine.

Dr. Watkins, you never cease to amaze me. You go on a rant against Sherry Shepard and DL Hugley for their comments about HIV; you say that the real focus on the HIV epidemic should be irresponsible heterosexual sex. OK perhaps I agree with you on that. The HIV epidemic certainly has its' share of blame to go around. It cannot be hung in one area. The problem I have is that when it comes to Tiger Woods and his BLATANTLY IRRESPONSIBLE SEXUAL BEHAVOIR, YOU HAVE YET TO AGGESSIVELY ATTACK THAT.ALL YOUR FOCUS SEEMS TO BE WITH HIM RISING BACK TO THE TOP AND MAINTAINING HIS FORTUNE!!! YOU REALLY NEED TO CHECK YOURSELF!!!

Uncle Tom, um I mean Dr. Boyce! Did you get your degree out of a "CRACKER JACK" box? Get it? CRACKER JACK box! At any rate how are you going to compare Tiger my N!99er Woods to black men that grew up with nothing? There are two different mentalities at work here. You need to spend more time understanding what it means to be disenfranchised and the behavior that one exemplifies when raised without the advantages of others. Ya' saleout!!!

Tiger's got more money than you and I and a lot others...Dr. Boyce Watkins. You need to worry about yourself. Pitiful, indeed. Such a waste of education.
