In the interview, James said "I don't think he ever cared about LeBron...My mother always told me: 'You will see the light of people when they hit adversity. You'll get a good sense of their character.' Me and my family have seen the character of that man."
Gilbert, in his letter, said that James' decision to leave Cleveland was "a shameful display of selfish betrayal." He also accused James of giving up during the playoffs.
LeBron made it clear that he always gave 100 percent to the Cavs. He also said that he doesn't regret his one hour televised show called "The Decision," which was watched by 10 million people. The event raised $2.5 million for Boys & Girls Clubs.
I was personally glad to see LeBron go to GQ to set the record straight. He didn't deserve the reaction he got from Dan Gilbert, and he's nowhere near being anyone's sports villain. In fact, he doesn't deserve any of this.
Dan Gilbert will pay a price for his public attack on James. No solid player with options is going to ever consider coming to Cleveland. Also, I suspect that Gilbert's promise that Cleveland will win a title before LeBron is both reckless and incorrect. LeBron is in this game to win championships, and Dan Gilbert is simply determined to embarrass himself.
On another level, I was surprised to see the criticism of James' decision coming from the likes of Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan. Jordan, Barkley and others seem offended that James would actually work together with Bosh and Wade to achieve his objectives, rather than spend his time fighting with them. But that's the difference between James, Jordan and Barkley. Barkley and Jordan are two men who've both had messy, complex and counter productive personal lives, all driven by an addiction to excessive, narcissistic behavior. Perhaps black men learning to work together rather than apart will allow us to rise in power as oppose to spending our times learning to destroy one another. When Bosh, Wade and James agreed to negotiate as a unit, they obtained power and leverage that allowed them to go head-to-head with team ownership. Jordan found himself consistently disrespected by Chicago's owners during his time as a Bull.
I, for one, applaud LeBron's move to Miami, and I also applaud LeBron James. But it is only by winning a title that he can make the haters sit down and shut up. That's exactly what he's going to do.

Sorry to say it's not about the money or black or white, it's about Lebron James life. He don't owe nobody anything because he has talent, he has the right to do what he wants to. The Cavs did not give a hoot about James they only cared about what he could do for their team. That man was true to them and they turned on him be cause he made a decision about his life. Before anyone start judging him they ought to judge themselves.I could say a lot about this bull but I'll leave it for you all to debate. Whateva. If you want a winning team in Cleveland want you all play for them. Rep that.

I no longer believe everything I read after seeing first hand how the media excludes facts in lien of reporting "sensational" news. I say this to say, LeBron james is excluding facts and telling "sensational" lies. I live in Cleveland Oh. and Dan Gilbert gave Lebron everything - even the Cleveland Rockers(WNBA)no longer exist because DG put his money behind LeBron. I would have liked to keep seeking the womens team play as opposed to seeing LeGone. Yes, Dan Gilbert allowed anger to get the better of him in his letter but he was right about one thing "a lot of people do want to go to Heaven without dying" but I understood exactly what he was really saying: LeGone wants a championship without working for it. And I concur!
Because of LeGone-Mike Brown lost his job. Because of LeGone-Shaq and Hinton were acquired. Because of LeGone-Cleveland lost out in acquring other good talent.
Because of LeGone's ego he wanted to do it all-and was given the opportunity to do it all i.e., be a point guard by bringing the ball down court, shoot whenever he wanted to,and coach if he felt the need to do so.
Cleveland has moved and so should he and stop telling "sensational" lies. Furthermore, he is saying he would return to play for Cleveland, please Just stay LeGONE!!!
Angry he left-No,GLAD! He is classless, lacks integrity, unattractive, and looks for the easy way out. Honestly, I feel sorry for his "sidekick"
not Cleveland.

There has been so much talk, and so many opinions about Lebron James. I really feel the bottom line is that he was a free agent, and he had the right to make his own choices. That being said, I do feel the way he went about it was dead wrong. I say this mainly on behalf of the fans in Cleveland. I watched how these fans supported him night in and night out; whatever was between he and Gilbert should not have been taken out on his fans. There was just a more "gentle" way , if you will, to break this news to his fans. As for Dan Gilbert, I really feel he has only himself to blame for Lebron leaving. This guy had 7 years to build a winning team around Lebron, and he failed to do it. He brought in guys that were inconsistent at best, and he went and got Shaq on the down side of his career. Shaq is definitely still a presence, but he is no longer a threat. And speaking of Jordan, I really don't feel that he was used by Chicago at all!! The Chicago owners played it smart and got this guy the talent he needed to win!! Alot of the choices were at the request of Michael Jordan (ie Dennis Rodman). In the end, Jordan and Phil Jackson had that team held hostage. And did they care six championships later.... heck no they didn't!!! Perhaps ol' Danny boy should have taken a page from their play book; instead he made it a point to say that Lebron was not going to have a say in any of the decison making aboout the team or it's coach. (Michael Jordan made it clear he would not stay in Chicago if Phil Jackson left.) And it was quite likely this way all along. He wanted Lebron to bust his tail every night, but not have any say in what happened with the team. Could be Lebron needed to be a little more aggressive as well, I don't know??(I mean in his approach to ownership) But I do happen to agree with Barkley about "The Decision", and the show Lebron put on in Miami with D wade and Bosh. I just thought it lacked the humility that I had become accustomed to seeing in Lebron. Not saying what I think is written in stone; it's just some thoughts from a gal that really loves the game. Should be a very interesting NBA season.

Lebron really mistreated his fans and the people of the Cleveland /Akron area that loved and supported this young man his entire career. He hurt and disappointed so many youngsters who held him high, high esteem. Northeast Ohio has not felt like a winner for a very long time and Lebron allowed people to cheer and feel good about their team and their city. Now he says that he hated Cleveland as a child, and that just rubs salt in an open wound. I feel that Lebron got played by Pat Riley and he used MJ and Wade to do it. Your are right Lebron was a free agent and could play anywhere he wanted, but it was the way he left home that still stings. Dan Gilbert did everything to please Lebron even building the new Cav's practice facility between Cleveland and Akron to accommodate Lebron. Most people do feel betrayed by Lebron especially when it was discovered he , Wade and Bosh had planned this collusion for two or three years. This fact seems okay with you. Cleveland and Akron are only about twenty minutes apart people work and travel to shop and just hang out just like driving from one suburb to another daily. There is no animosity between the sister cities that I have ever witnessed. Kids travel back and forth to play sports all the time. Well needless to say people who live in this area question allot of GQ article because we know better. Lebron could have departed for the sun in a more diplomatic way and lesson all this controversy. I happen to agree with Charles and Jordan, if this trend continues small markets will never attract championship players, thus the demise of the NBA. Perhaps that is the wave of the future since Stern seems so focused on a Global market.
